Tearing

Does anyone know if you have less of a risk of tearing your second time? I had to get one stitch on the inside with my first, and have now become very paranoid of tearing or having to have an episiotomy! My son was born 8lb 9oz 4 years ago.

Due to scar tissue you are more likely to tear again. I tore very bad with my first and I'm terrified of it again but it's inevitable.  You can use oils or vitamin e to help with elasticity and should help with tearing. Try not to stress about it it's temporary  (even though it took me 3 months to feel OK after my first )

To help me I did perineal massages. It seems crazy but after doing it every night for about a week the skin becomes very stretchy. It helped me to never tear at all.

Vitamin E oil for the skin, not the little capsules. Massage on your perineum nightly.

With my first who was 6lbs 13oz I had a little tear and I think I only got 1 stitch... #2 7lbs 1oz none... And had epidural with both of them... #3 7lb 1oz none and natural... #4 7lbs 11oz none and natural... #5 7lbs 10oz none and best natural ever... I honestly think learning how to control your vaginal muscle helps a lot... With my first I did push more with my rectum and I think that is one thing that made the difference...

My first only weighed  5 lbs 9 oz I got a second degree tear and about 10? Stitches can't remember exactly. Second was 7 lbs 3 oz only had 3? Ish stitches with her. It's weird you would think the bigger baby would do more damage.

I did the perineum thing the first time and they ended up cutting me to get her out. And stitching after. I didn't feel anything because they numb the area.

I had a 4th degree episiotomy with my first and didn't tear at all with my second. birth position matters a lot on tearing. Flat on your back increases your chances. If you only had one stitch with your first I wouldn't worry. You likely will be ok. :)

I swear by stretching your perineum and that area. I try to do it every evening in the last few weeks. My first and third child I tore a little (2-3 stitches) and I didn't do it. my 2nd was my biggest 8lb 6oz and I didn't tear with him.

My first I was 6 lbs 6 oz and I tore, I had to get 2 stitches, my second was 8 lbs 5 oz and I only had to get 1 stitch. My third was in the middle at 7 lbs 11 oz and I didn't tear at all, so for me it seemed to get better, even with the 2 lb difference between my first and second

Squats help stretch your perineum and can help reduce tearing.

My daughter was 8pounds 8ounces and I had a third degree tear. My son was 10 pounds and I didn't tear at all. But I did take primrose oil during the last week's of my pregnancy so that might have helped..
