Tylenol 3: Numbs Contractions?

I've been prescribed Tylenol 3 following my wisdom tooth extraction. I have never had codeine before.
I am not taking the medicine on a schedule, instead I'm waiting as long as I can between doses to minimize LO's exposure. I'm currently 39+1.
I see that some possible side effects are constipation, vomiting, etc. basically general digestive problems.
I've been having some really hard cramps today and the T3 has thus far worked very well for my pain. I don't believe I've had even one real contraction yet, just very strong Braxton Hicks. This far in, I'm trying to be vigilant for if/when real contractions begin.
My question is: do any of you know whether the T3 could prevent me from feeling contractions? It knocks me out cold and so I'm worried that I could go into labor and not wake up on time to get help, or not feel my contractions at all.

I can't imagine the Tylenol 3 would prevent you from feeling real labor. I know everyone is different and everyone's pain tolerance is different,  but, after giving birth twice I will tell you real labor is extremely intense and hard to overlook. If your worried about not feeling the pain as much another thing to feel for is extreme tightening in your abdomen which usually will come with the feeling of not being able to breath in as deeply as you want (bc during a contraction your abdomen doesn't expand fully to allow your lungs to expand because it is squeezing do tightly) hence the "who ha" breathing of labor. Just remember, most women get a spinal or epidural to help maintain the pain (even that doesn't eliminate it) so Tylenol 3 is unlikely ;)

No, it's fine. I didn't figure they'd want to do anything more than fillings this late, but it was getting really serious. I have to eat every few hours because of my metabolism and I eat mostly carbohydrates, so by the time I got there I was already having the shakes because I was hungry and in pain. I couldn't let that go on with painkillers not working anymore.
If it hadn't been a matter of being able to eat and brush my teeth, I wouldn't have had it done. I wanted to be put out and have my wisdom teeth removed that way with general anesthetic and all, but this one couldn't wait anymore. I was really nervous to have a tooth infection while pregnant too, because I don't know if it could get to baby after hearing horror stories about people getting ear infections, blood infections, etc.
I had partially the same motivation about labor too, I don't think they'd give me a general anesthetic during labor unless I had some kind of terrible condition and couldn't stand any pain, so I'd be feeling the baby PLUS that tooth. I would have had a really crappy L&D if that tooth was still in there.

Ouch!! Yeah I'd have them taken out too. Wouldn't want to be in labor and have pain like that in the mouth too. I hope I didn't sound negative in my response. That wasn't my intention. Sometimes it's hard to figure out through text what the other person is feeling. I'm sure if you or your dentist didn't think it was best you would've waited. Good luck to you:) And I hope your mouth is feeling better!

Yes, my top wisdom teeth were found to be decaying around December or so. My dentist was hoping we could wait until after my son was born to extract them, because of the panoramic X Ray and the general anesthesia.
What happened was my left wisdom tooth got so bad with a cavity and infection that I couldnot brush my teeth, nor floss, nor eat. I could barely talk. I had Vicodin, Tylenol, and Aspirin and was taking all three and still nearly in tears. I felt like all my left teeth were being crushed.
I went in to ask a different dentist since mine wasn't in and he told me that because of the amount of pain and how far in my mouth and face it was referring, I should get it extracted, but he'd have to use only local anesthetic and it would be very stressful for me, so the choice was mine.
I had him take it out.

You're 39+1 and they did an extraction? I had 2 when I 24+5, I'm now 25+2 and my dentist said he was only doing it to avoid the risk of infection. And it ending up being an emergency in the last tri mester. I had a cavity in a wisdom tooth and a broken molar, that couldn't be saved with a root canal:/ Anyway idk about the T3 and contractions. I didn't take it because it does cross the placenta. And because my pain just wasn't bad enough to have to take anything. Hope you find your answer.
