UK mums! Is this now normal?
I had my anomaly scan on Monday and I was very shocked that when we went up to maternity unit after the scan (as told) the midwife just took my file and put a growth chart in it. My urine nor BP was checked which I found INCREDIBLY odd.
I also haven't had my weight checked since my booking in 10 weeks ago and in my pregnancy I've had HG and lost nearly a stone ( I was already a healthy bmi before, still am but lower). I've not put any of weight back on either at 20 weeks so was hoping to speak to the midwife about it at the appt.
However when I spoke to the midwife who gave me my file back she said they don't weigh women and baby seems to be growing ok according to anomaly scan. However severe appetite loss and low pregnancy weight gain can lead to a low birth weight! She then said if I was that worried to make an appt with community midwives.
Between this and no check for BP and urine (especially when my last urine at 16 weeks had keytones) I get the feeling I was majorly fobbed off as my scan was booked in at 4:30 and by time I got to the maternity unit afterwards as I was meant to do, it was after 5 and I saw lots of midwifes leaving.
Is it normal for none of this to be checked at 20 week scan and appt after?
With my daughter 5 years ago I was weighed every visit and had BP and urine checked also and yet this pregnancy is more complicated.
It just didn't feel right. I've made an appt for midwife next week and im wondering whether to say something.

When ive attended my scans i have always seen a consultant and had my urine tested but thats because my pregnancies have had varied issues. (this is baby no4) this pregnancy is the 1st time ive ever suffered with HG and ive lost 3 and a half st but im still like 14 st at 5ft 9..im also now 37 weeks and havent gained anything so my midwife is actually really happy about my weight loss and it hasnt affected babies growth in the slightest. When i attend my appointments with midwife i always have routine bloods..urine test..bp check and my weight checked..she listens to babies heartbeat and measures my tummy. I like the care i receive from my midwife..however the care from my local hospital leaves something to be desired..im from UK north east
See my concern for hospital/clinics that do not check weight/BP/Urine is that they could be missing major warning signs for pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and birth weight issues/mothers nutritional issues related to HG. By 34 weeks problems will already be well underway and I know it's hard where I am to get a gp appt (takes on average 3 weeks here for an appt) so many women may not make an appt that far in the future or may be having serious issues by the time they're seen.
I'm in England and am 25 weeks pregnant. I also only saw the sonographer at my scan appointments. My community midwife does BP and urine at every appointment but the only time I was weighed was at my booking appointment at 8 weeks.
And at my anomaly scan I only seen the ultrasounds woman that's it no midwife....
I was like that !! They don't check you as much as in your first one !!! And I do feel like they don't care ! I only have had 2 appointments with my midwife and I won't have another till 7 weeks from now wich I'm 28 weeks... I just feel that they miss out on changes or faults going on with me or the baby...
Im in mayo but have dealt with dublin and portlaoise hospitals on previous pregnancies..im a public patient and always found my treatment in pregnancy and aftercare absolutely brilliant i honestly couldnt fault them
The care in the UK seems to vary a lot. I'm in the east midlands & have been receiving pretty good care. Had BP & urine checks at all appts, inc prior to scans, weight is only checked twice - once at booking appt which was 11wks for me, & just had it done at 33wk appt. Had appts at 11, 16, 25, 28, 31, 33,wks due appts every 2wks now, scans were at 12 & 20 wks.
I'm in England and all they did at my scan was scan me. It's at your midwife appointments that she is meant to weight you and check your urine each time.
I'm in Ireland and am going semi private, really happy with my treatment so far. I have only been weighed at the original appointment though. I'm guessing you my next gp appointment will double all that as I am doing combined care.
In UK, with second I've had blood pressure and urine checked at all appointments. I've only been weighed when had my 12, 20 and 34 wk scan. I've had a more complicated pregnancy this time round. Due in 3 says, had midwife at 38 +4 next time I see her is 41 wks. Read posts about how dilated ladies are, I've never been checked. Think I was treated better with my first which was in 2009.
im in england..i feel similar..because its my second i havent had an appointment since 16 weeks..had scan at 20 weeks n next see the midwife at 28 weeks..she checked the bsbies heartbeat and blood pressure..but i had to ask for my urine to be tested..id brought a specimen n she seemed a bit put out that i asked her..id make an appointment with ur gp or with the community midwives like shes said to keep an eye on things..id have thought theyd keep a closer eye on u to be honest..

Hey I'm in Northern Ireland and I thought it was very strange. The midwife just didn't seem to care as though she was trying to get rid of me. I thought the urine check was very important as my last one had keytones for starvation/dehydration so I thought they'd especially ne trying to keep an eye on that! Even my husband was bewildered after and he usually would tell me to calm down if i'm worrying too much.
No matter what country youre in that is very strange,(im in ireland)..your urine and blood pressure should be checked at EVERY appointment,they are very important to check regularly during pregnancy and if you are losing weight that should be monitored...if i was you i would demand they check these things as its routine and should be checked..honestly id be fuming if they neglected to check these at every appointment
I'm in ireland and they are like that here I'm now 37 weeks and they do very little compared to my last pregnancy u years ago
