What is full term pregnancy?

How many weeks is considered full term? I have heard that baby can come anytime after week 36, but the expected date of delivery that doctors give is usually 40 weeks I guess. Are babies born before week 40 completely healthy?

I think it varies slightly, but in general 37 weeks is considered full term.

ACOG and SMFM now define a full-term pregnancy as a pregnancy that lasts between 39 weeks, 0 days and 40 weeks 6 days.

Last thing adopted by the APA is 39 weeks. That is when a baby is considered full term but in the end it really depends on the baby's growth. It could be fully grown and ready to come out earlier than this.

38-40 weeks is considered term. 35-37 is considered late preterm.
36-37; sorry I hit the wrong number.
