X-rays

So I am 7w 6d and I have not had my first exam yet. So we have not told our family and friends we are expecting until we know everything is ok. A major part of my job is taking X-rays and scrubbing in for surgical procedures. I have done my best to pawn off X-rays and giving away surgeries I really want to do but I don’t want my coworkers to get suspicious so I sometimes have to do these things. I make sure to wear as much protective great as possible but I'm concerned about what it could do to our baby. How bad are X-rays if I limit to around 5 a week? (1/20 of what I normally do)

Just curious - are you a veterinary technician?  I am and because of the potential risks I elected to tell my coworkers as soon as I knew.  My doctor said first trimester is most important in regards to xrays and anesthetic gases.  I was hesitant because we haven't had our ultrasound yet.  You can get a respirator for anesthesia that greatly reduces your risk - if you are a vet tech your clinic will usually purchase that for you.

Thank you ceceila4, that makes me feel better! Sometimes It's just not avoidable. And keelie81, I am a veterinarian so I do not work in a field where I would know what amount of exposure is safe for a pregnant human. I plan to ask my doctor but as I stated I haven't had my first appointment yet so I was hoping there were other women here who have been in the same situation.

I still assist and take X-rays with this baby also, the way they make X-ray machines now days, u get more radiation from the sun.. Good lick and Congrats!!

This is not something you should be asking us. You work in the field so you should know. Call your doctor
