breastfeeding help!!

Ok, so I had my baby march 4th. Immediately began breastfeeding. Everything was good. Her latch was off some but it adjusted as she ate. Yesterday my nipples were so sore I couldn't nurse at all & had to supplement formula. Woke up this morning to my boobs feeling like rocks. Took a warm shower & let water run over them. Tried to nurse, nipples still too sore. As the day went on my boobs started getting even more hard. Idk what to do. Every time I try to nurse I'm almost in tears because it hurts so bad. I tried using a manual pump & it hurt as bad as nursing. I tried hand expressing a few times & even tho I got some out, not a lot, it didn't seem to help the hardness. I'm not sure what to do now!

Use hot cloths over you'r breasts and sit out in the sun for a bit with you'r nipples out then try and relax and feed. You'r letdown will be painful but afterwards you should have emense relief

You will have to pump to relieve some of the engorgement in your breast, otherwise you will suffer from clogged milk ducts and mastitis.

I have nurse my first born for two years and I must admit after the third day of nursing I wanted to quit, it got better the second and third week of nursing then there were no pain or discomfort after that. Try to pump in between feedings and after and make sure to take some tylenol for the pain. See  if a clean cool/warm wash cloth will help soothe your nipple pain.

The only way the hardness will go away is by getting the milk out and emptying your breasts. You can't skip 1 feeding without developing problems. Especially in the beginning. I had sore scabbed nipples and the lactation nurse gave me these water based pads to place on my nipples for about a week. It helped and i healed but i did keep pumping every 3 hours through the pain :/ when they got hard i massaged them as I pumped, especially the section thats hard. I also took ibuprofen for the pain when it was too much. I put ice packs for pain and took warm baths to try to help milk to come out. Good luck...

Please use the pump and try to take it all out the symptoms you are detailing are from a mastitis beginning that is a terrible pain. I had it with my first born. My breast got really hard then red and i had terrible high fever 103-104 almost had to get surgery cause the only way to help urself is by taking it all out.
