breastfeeding, how will I know?

How will I know if I can produce milk or not? I'm 32 weeks and I haven't experienced any leaking. I do feel tenderness in my breast and nipples, and I can feel something hardening (milk ducts?)
I am committed to breastfeeding my child but I'm so worried it won't happen for me since my mom was incapable of doing so for me or my sister.
I know it might take like 5 days after the baby is born to start producing. Are there any tips to kind of get that going? Diet wise? Should I be pumping during that time to stimulate?

UGH, another nervous, sleepless night..

Everything that was said above is true my mom didn't breastfeed with me or my sister and I am able to breastfeed. It is very difficult but don't give up. I cried a lot because at first you don't see much and I also had to supplement it is honestly the hardest thing I have ever done.  I didn't feel anything come in and I never had leaking and my milk came in 5 days later. I actually use what is called a nipple shield because it was way to painful and some people don't like using it but I was in so much pain that it helped tremendously. I am sure you will be fine just ask for help and don't get to discouraged

Don't worry about it.  My mom didn't breastfeed me or my other siblings cuz she said she didn't have enough milk.  I breastfed my first son for 10 mos.  It has nothing to do with inability to produce milk, and I believe everything to do with baby latching on to breast correctly.  So once u have baby, consult with the lactation consultant to help u in the beginning, keep it up, use nipple ointment to keep ur nipples from chafing and pump in between once u get home and u should find success.  I did that and I had to supplement with formula in the beginning and still produced a more than adequate supply of breast milk cuz I did everything above and after 8 wks I was breastfeeding my son exclusively.  Just keep it up and ull get the hang of it.  Also try to relax and once ur breasts fill up with milk, feed baby and or pump so u don't suffer from engorgement.  Goodluck!!  I'm sure it will work out just fine for u.
