Try getting lots of zinc. It's the only thing proven to shorten a cold, there is something in zinc that inhibits viral reproduction and if you are early on enough in your cold it can help shorten the duration.

Natural home remedies did the trick for me. Vaporizers, gargling warm salt water, and crazy amount of fluids. Used the bathroom every second but helped me feel better

The only thing my doctor said I could take when I had a cold was tylenol. I basically has to sweat the cold out and was miserable for almost two weeks. However vices vapor rub helps a soothes. Home remedy tea; half red onion, half an apple, lots of ginger, slice of orange and of lemon. Let that brew with lots of water.. add an little honey and pop a cough drop in the hot tea. Sounds nasty but not too bad and it helps!

I got a list from my doctor in the beginning of my pregnancy and have had 3 colds so far. My list says you can take regular Tylenol, Tylenol multi-symptom, regular Benadryl, cough only robotussin, throat lozenges, chloroseptic spray, saline nose spray or ocean nose spray. Also if you are unsure about the one you are buying ask the pharmacist. Also if it's a bacterial cold you can see the doctor and they'll prescribe antibiotics for you, if it's bad. They had to do that for me cause the over the counter stuff didn't work. Another awesome thing you can use everyday to flush out your nose is the Neil Med sinus rinse, it's amazing and works wonders! You can get it at CVS.
