u need to eat lots of stuff with folic acid in it to prevent that
I have no experience with a child with a cleft lip/palate, but my maternal aunt was born with it. She is in her late 50s and has led a totally normal childhood and adult life in every way. The corrective surgeries that are done are amazing.
My nephew, who is now 16 months old was bornd with a cleft lip and palate. He is doing amazing! He has had two surgeries so far, and as he grows, he will need a few more in the future. But he has the best smile ever! It's different, you have special bottles to feed them with and what not, and surgeries will be a bit rough, but babies are so resilient. Don't stress to much about it, I am sure your baby will be okay :)
Don't worry. It can be fixed. I think they do it at 3 months. Go back in 2 weeks to find out for sure but if I understand what I read its genetic.
