constipation

So I'm about 9 weeks along and I have terrible constipation. I have been told to take Colace, stool softener. Anyone else take this so soon in the pregnancy or even at all in the pregnancy and how long did you take it? My friend said she took it then whole time but that just seems weird to take a stool softer the whole time...is that even healthy or okay?

I'm also 9 week along and I've been taking Miralax and it does help. I had this problem before pregnancy and used to take it and it would work the next morning an didn't cause stomach pains or diarrhea. But now I take it and it takes a couple days to work and it has caused some pain and diarrhea but I don't even care lol bring on the stomach cramps as long as it makes me go! I used Colace in my first pregnancy but that didn't really help me.

Senokot is actually not ok to take in the first trimester because it is to powerful and can cause your uterus to contract, I had constipation really bad around the same time for like 3-4 weeks I started getting sick cause of it the dr recommended I take docusate sodium capsules and a syrup laxative called lactulose solution or colonic content acidifier there 100% safe for pregnancy and work great!! Hope this help :) good luck dear!

I drink orange juice and water like crazy to prevent constipation. Sometimes too much fiber can cause constipation as well. Miralax works well in softening the stools.

Pregnancy causes slowing of the GI tract. So constipation is very common throughout pregnancy. Drink plenty of fluids and increase your fiber intake. Colace is fine to take, but it may take a little bit to start working. if you are that constipated also try prune juice, senokot, or miralax
