I put my babies in their crib in their own room from day one and they have all thrived great in there. After the first couple nights I didn't use a monitor either cuz I had no trouble hearing the hungry cry when it was time. Newborns are such noisy sleepers I've never been able to sleep in the same room as one lol. I think it helps them sleep through the night faster when mommy doesn't get up at every little sound but just when they need to eat. Plus then dads sleep is less disturbed making him more helpful during the day ;) Fortunately there are no wrong answers and we can do what works best for us.

I'm a ftm too and originally planned to have baby in room with us but we have also decided to try (keyword try) to put baby in crib from the start. We will swaddle her for the first few weeks but will stop that once she is strong enough to get out of the swaddle. Also may use halo sleep sacks to help her feel snug. My friend had her baby in crib right away and now at 2 years old she does not have any problem at bedtime with him. He knows the routine. So that's kind of what I am aiming for.

Oh and we also have a video monitor to watch her in her crib.

With my first she always slept in her crib in her room which was also just right across from mine. She was fine woke up for her feedings and diaper changes n then back to bed!! She was sleeping through the night by 3 months I would have to set my alarm to wake for feedings!

Thank you!  We do have a Moses basket that we were thinking of setting baby in crib with so it's a little more "snug"  fitting for baby bit we will see!  All about trial and error I guess. My main thing is I didn't want to get a response saying it could be unsafe having baby across hall from me. Thanks for suggestion:)

Ya i agree it is up to you but it is better to have ur infant in the room with you in a bassinet. They are used to being in a tight space and to put them in a huge crib they might not adapt well. Its worth a try if thats what you want see how it goes. But my baby will be in the bassinett  for he is going to Be up alot and very often to feed. Good luck and congrats !!

Thanks ladies for the helpful tips! :) i am used to getting up constantly to go to the bathroom which is right next to baby room that me getting out of bed to go get baby won't phase me. But i guess I will just have to see how the baby reacts and go from there. If need to will Def move baby to our room, but if baby is doing ok, then I will keep baby in crib and definitely will have a room monitor! :)

I'd say it's up to you.  There's nothing wrong with planning to have him in a different room.  Just keep in mind that you'll be exhausted, and baby will be waking up every couple of hours.  If you think you can drag yourself out of bed and across the hall every time he/she cries, then go ahead.

I'm a FTM, and we plan on having a bassinet in our room for the first couple of months while we're getting used to everything and until our baby's sleeping pattern is established.  Then we'll move him to his own room.

Your baby has grown inside you it knows you sounds . To me I believe your child should be with you in our room so it can be near you. Imagine how you would feel if all you knew was mom and all of a sudden she wasn't around and you couldn't hear her or smell her. I the choice is yours. You don't have to co sleep but just to have that baby near you is a natural thing.  My son was with me 100"% of the time and he is 7 months old.

No. That's really just up to you. But I will say most newborns, not all just most, will not go along with that easily.  They generally don't sleep for more than a few hours at a time. And they generally don't like having a lot of open space around them. So be prepared for whatever reaction your baby may have. And be prepared to go with the flow and find what works best for you.  But if you know you can hear your baby and wake up then go for it. It's good to start habits you want to establish early.
