I'm praying my pregnancy continues to go smoothly so that I don't have to be induced. I've heard to many scary stories from friends and family of things that go wrong when getting induced. (I know it's not the case with everyone)

I will get induced at 39 weeks because of gd. I am not looking forward for that i would prefer going into labor on my own, dr said it can be dangerous for the baby to go over 39 weeks because placenta starts to deteriorate after 39 weeks because of the gd. So no optional here.

Question who decided to change ftm to 40 the same person that says 37 was safe. But after 42 is dangerous I believe the old way is better kids were being born forever before 40 weeks we just make to much of things these days. I think some of us were born different weeks and ok we'll do fine.

I'm getting induced at 39 week's because my doctor is off.the week.I'm due I'm 37+1 and my baby already weighs 7 1/2lbs. So he will be 8.8-9.8lbs at birth.

The risk of stillbirth increases beyond 40 weeks. Although, a small risk at something like 40+1, it is probably considerably higher at 42 weeks. I have seen delivery protocol for moms @ 40 yrs old or older to be delivered by due date. Obstetrics is a very litigious field. Do you actually think a doc wants a perfectly normal pregnancy to end in stillbirth just because of a post-term delivery in this sue-happy society. This issue is another reason to show why ACCURATE dating is vital!

My second labor induced at 39 weeks was a lot easier than my first that was an over due baby!  I'll say that.  :>)  I think patients should allow their doctor to direct when it is time for the baby to come.  My doctor offered to induce me and I said "oh yes.  sounds good!"

Pretty sure there is no right or wrong answer to this question.

I agree ^ but for some reason we all feel the need to comment our opinions, including you lol. My comment wasnt intended to offend anyone, it was just simply my opinion. I don't judge anyone or frown upon them for choosing induction. I just don't see why anyone would want to..bringing on a labor your body and baby MIGHT not be really for is scary to me.

I think most docs do not induce first pregnancies as often due to a higher rate of c sections but that correlation goes way down for babies after that.  My first pregnancy, I was 10 days over due and with my second, they induced me at 39 weeks (8.5 pound baby!! at 39 weeks!!).  My doctor did it for three reasons:  the first was the official in the charts reason, baby weight.  But also the other two included that she worked on a rotating shift and every 24 hours you had a different doctor delivering the babies. She wanted to deliver my baby so scheduled me during HER 24 hour shift and ALSO, with a one year old at home, it sure was a help knowing when I needed to get my son to my sisters to watch him, when it was all going to happen, etc.  Much much easier for planning purposes.

And doctors are under pressure because so many women ASK to be induced.  I bet they get asked every day, every other appointment.

I hate these posts! Drama. To each her own, as long as baby is healthy so what. Im sure no doctor would induce in a situation putting the patient ( baby or mom) at risk. Full term depends on a lot of different things doctor, state, country, facility etc. Dont mean to offend anyone dont want to argue, just wish everyone would respect each others situations and choices. I hope everyone has a great pregnancy, delivery and healthy baby.

39 weeks not early and because it's safe to do anything pass 37 but doctors feel comfortable at 39 weeks when getting ready to deliver

Not entirely certain. Usually for convenience but also it helps keep the birth weight from getting to high.

I wonder The same thing. Especially since 37 weeks is no longer considered "full term" ..40 is.
Unless there's a medical necessity (which doesn't include "being uncomfortable" ) I don't get it.. but, to each their own I guess. I've had a beautiful pregnancy so maybe I have no room to.talk. 39weeks +4 :) hoping she comes soon-on her own!
