breast feeding after breast reduc.?

Thanks guys. Ive since found out its all down to if nipples were removed and if they were there is a good chance i wont be able to.... its now a waiting game to see if old ducts have been able to attach to ne ones.. fingers crossed :)

I would get in contact with a lactation consultant. Most clinics and hospitals have one in staff and they also offer breastfeeding classes. I hope it works well and you can breastfeed.

i had a breast reduction 12 years ago. with my first i got colostrum five days before delivery. i wasn't well prepared and i gave up trying to breast feed after two days. i didn't know if i was producing any milk and my son was getting anxious to eat, so i gave in. i also have to say i did not have a great support system at the time. this time around though I am determined to try harder. the first time around my nips wouldn't get firm enough to latch, this time they seem more sensitive. you can look into inverted nipple shields and nipple shields if you have this problem. something else i have this time around is mothers milk tea. its suppose to help with milk supply. so i have that stocked up already, in case i need it right away. (also has many ingredients found in gripe water, so it should help soothe little one when mommy drinks the tea, which i think is pretty neat!) when i had my surgery the doctor said he'd do his best to not cut too many milk ducts, so hopefully that worked and i will be able to get something. i think a big part is how determined you are and how prepared you are. do lots of research, ask lots of questions and be as prepared as possible. the first little while is very difficult so have your support crew know your intentions so they can help support you. you can contact your local laleche league and some hospitals have breastfeeding experts to help you. don't be afraid to ask for help. and don't beat yourself up if your baby does end up on formula. prepare to breastfeed but also prepare for the fact that you may have to go to formula if things don't work out. it doesn't make you a bad person and you still will have a great bond with your child.
