flu shot

Okay so my Doctor keeps pressuring me to get the flu shot and I'm totally against it because I had got the H1N1 nasel spray a few years ago and it had me messed up for about 3 weeks! Has anyone gotten the flu shot while pregnant?

If you got sick right after getting the shot, it's because you had already been exposed to the virus and the shot hadn't had the opportunity to start working. Either that or you contracted a strain of the virus the shot doesn't protect against.

Hi I have never had a flu shot and neither has my children. There are not enough conclusive studies done on pregnant women to know for sure  what damage could be done. Its stated on the CDC web site that they think .td fine but don't know for sure. It is a decision every one  has the right to make on  there own. I personally don't want myself or my kids to be the guinea life for vaccine companies.

Exactly as Keelie said, they wouldn't urge you to get it if it caused a higher risk of miscarriages. It's a dead virus and doesn't start protecting you until 2 weeks after it's been administered. The whole argument of "I haven't gotten sick in 10 years so why get it now" is ridiculous. It only takes one time and the actual flu can be far more detrimental to your unborn child than the flu shot. It's more than a little bug that makes you feel awful. It severely affects the immune system, respiratory system and your cardiovascular system. Add to that the fact that pregnant women are far more susceptible to illness than non-pregnant women as our immune systems are compromised. For me, there was no question about whether or not to get the shot.

I got it last month and it made me exhausted all that day/night and my arm was sore for a few days but otherwise I was alright. I also don't go out very often so the two weeks to develop antibodies wasn't much of a problem for me.
Normally I don't get the shot but I did because I always end up in the ER if I catch the flu and I'm NOT doing flu plus pregnancy.

If flu shots caused a higher miscarriage risk they wouldn't give it to you.  The flu shot can not give you the flu although you can become sick I.e. running a fever ect. I declined the flu shot but got the tdap.

Personally I never get a flu shot and my kids have also never had one either at 6 and almost 9. I'm pregnant now with my 3rd and my doctor asked but I declined. The last time I had the flu was also the last year I got a flu shot when u was 5, I'm not saying I never get sick but we don't get sick very often and when we do it's usually a virus or the common cold which can't be treated with medication anyway. They also base the current flu shot on old strains of the virus so there's really no way of knowing if you will get a strain that will prevent this years flu.

Thanks! My mind is already made up! Lol I'm not getting it! I haven't been sick in over 10+ years so I don't think It's necessary and plus I never got it with my other pregnancies!

I've had the flu shot with both pregnancies and no issues.... usually the shot is a dead virus and nasal spray is a live virus, or so I've been told. Maybe that's why it messed you up

According to my research and knowledge flu shots not only have the ability to make u sick and have been associated with higher miscarriage rates. I chose not to take it and will continue to do so because I find it an unnecessary vaccination that a healthy preg. woman can do without. I suggest you look in to it more before caving in to the pressure.

I have had the flu shot and TDAP shot I'm 35 weeks and I haven't had any issues with either shot . I asked if u can get sick from the flu shot before I was given it the nurse told me it takes. 2 weeks for the shot to take affect so you can get sick during the first two weeks after the shot but the shot will not cause the flu or sickness .
