free insurance breast pumps!

I read there is a mandate that says insurance companies must purchase a breast pump for nursing mothers. I don't think I read it on here but if I did I'm sorry for the double post! Anyways I just checked with mine and they do provide the good medellas (just not the $1200 symphony). I'm so excited! Hope I can save someone some money or pain (from trying to use a cheap one like I did). You can go to medellas website and check what your insurance provides

And yes let's try to keep this bumped up so no one has to shell out big bucks for a breast pump if they don't have to. If anyone finds themselves in a tight spot or experiences the pain of a cheap breast pump tugging away at your nips for a few drops of milk, I know they say never share or buy a used breast pump... but you get new lining and everything for it. I'm not trying to start a debate I'm just saying I would do it to save the money if I need to. All the rentals are used!

That's terrible about tricare... we were debating getting the family tricare but I think now is not a good time as I doubt they have good pregnancy coverage. I'm disappointed to hear thier Co pays are high. In the past I would just go without insurance Bc it was cheaper to pay my docs and rxs out of pocket (docs only charged me $50 and rx I'd get super cheap from sams or costco).

Actually the only reason this is now covered under health insurance in the US is bc of Obamacare,  this was passed into law by the president. There are only a couple of insurance companies that were grandfathered in and are not required to offer this benefit.

I'm in Canada and I called both our providers and they do not. Manulife and Great West Life. I've heard that Sunlife will but only with a prescription and you have to have specific health spending option included with your coverage. It doesn't matter which province you are in. I believe the main reason most providers won't cover it in Canada is that our maternity benefits are essentially a full year, whereas in the USA, moms generally get around six weeks (which is terrible), so they have to pump if they want to breastfeed. I was looking into this just Wednesday because it was December 31 and you want to do your discretionary spending before your account rolls over...

Per the Health Care Reform insurance companies are supposed to offer them for free. It is under women's preventive care. My insurance will cover any non-hospital grade breast pump up to $750. I have Optima Health you pay for the pump and they reimburse you the full price.

I knew I wasn't the only person who felt that way. I will never completely understand why their insurance is not  comparable to that of Medicaid where they don't have to pay at all. When I had it I was the worst and the co-pays were ridiculous.

I'm sorry but I feel that military insurance Tricare is the biggest crock ever!!! A breast pump should be absolutely fully covered for women in the military and the spouses of military men. These are the people who fight for us everyday, and the families that sacrifice their loved ones for the safety of people they don't even know. It's very sad when they can't receive something as simple as a breast pump for the well being of their babies, yet if these men and women decided to go on welfare as opposed to enlisting in the military they world get everything for free..... this country is a** backwards....

Are you ladies dependants or the actual Soldier? I ask because the coverage between spouses and children is different

Yup, I have tricare and found out the same. So I would say "some" insurance companies cover it. Best bet is to call and ask them.

If you have Tricare they do not cover breast pumps unless a Dr says its medically necessary for the health of a premature baby

Yes insurance companies do cover breast pumps. I called mine and they offer double electric breast pumps for free I have to order 30 days before my due date and they will ship it to me. I get the choice of different places u can oder then from each place has different brands so I get to choose the one I want from the ones they offer. I'm so glad I heard about this cu my last pregnancies I didn't know and tried using cheap ones and they were horrible. Just call ur insurance company and ask if they cover breast pumps and if they cover them 100 percent!

My insurance only covers a manual hand pump.  Not even worth going through the hassle for only something that costs $15 at the stores.  I bought a double electric one at the store, that's not one of the hospital grade ones, but it'll serve the purpose I need.

Call your insurance company and find out. They may help with a car seat as well but usually it has to be 45 days before due date

My insurance does NOT cover breast pumps. It is federal law and my insurance goes by state law. Luckily I had gotten one last year that was covered 100% and is still in good shape. So I will be able to use that one.

It's so awesome! With my first they only covered a rental for three months and I knew I'd be going longer. Eventually my sil was finished with her pump and style and gave it to me and the difference was like heaven!
