I'll definitely have to do something, at home would be nice and I do have family that can lend me their strips and meters. I can't just go in with my son, like I said he's autistic, and at my clinic the "one hour test" is actually 2.5 hours long. And I can't leave. That is way to long for my son to have to be there, it would end up a nightmare.
Ask your ob if yoy can check your blood sugar a few times a day for a week or so. I have an adverse reaction to the glucola so I monitor my sugars and ob reviews them
See if they can check with the finger one in the docs office first... maybe also in the am, with some fasting... might give them an idea as to whether you need the big one or not
My doc gave me the drink to take home and on Friday I'm going to drink it and show up at the office an hour later to have my blood drawn. I will only be at the doctors for a few min. Just take your child with you and drop them off a little late for school
Here in the UK you only get offered the test if diabetes runs in the family! I have just had it as my dad was diagnosed type 2. However I never had it with my first as he wasn't diagnosed then.
Will your doctor let u have it done at an outside lab? I worked for Quest and you can go there and have it done. I had gestional diabetes with my son hes 11. Im currently about 8 weeks. I think that there is more health risk than big babies if you have it. My sugar went high a few times and it was very concerning. People end up in the hospital with high sugar. I work in a hospital now. So big babies is not the worst thing. Please talk to your doctor.
Unfortunately for me, if I reschedule it has to be before 8:45. At my Dr office that is the latest you can schedule an appointment for testing. I'm honestly not concerned about having gestational diabetes, even with family history of diabetes. All my family members who have it, it's weight related(obesity) and I am the exact opposite. I'm 105 dripping wet, as the hubby puts it, when not pregnant. So far this pregnancy both baby and myself have been relatively healthy (I have GERD, only pregnancy related) but aside from that, healthy. My Dr says I'll have a big baby, about 6lbs, which for my petiteness is big and my first born was 4.13.
I am not doing the test. I have had no issues with my sugar in the 7 times I have been pregnant. Its not a must. Trust me my Dr told me at 20 weeks that my son was in the 87 percentile for his weight already. I'm gonna have a big baby. My littlest was 8lbs even. Good luck.
You do not have to have this test done in fact I will not be doing this test.
My doctors tried to scare me by telling me I could have. 10 lbs baby... Reality is I have big babies I eat healthy and have not history of blood sugar issues. You could opt to get a i'm glucose testing test your own sugars for I believe it's 10 days and then bring the results to the doctorif I absolutely needed to do the test I would do the hunger I would not do the drinking test it's gross
Definitely reschedule. If you end up having gestational diabetes and it's not taken care of, you can become type 2 diabetic after giving birth. Your baby can have a lot of complications. It can cause them to grow rapidly and they'll have to be treated after birth for their own high sugar. Just get it rescheduled and definitely have it done.
Scheduling for lab work is usually pretty flexible. You may be able to bump it back enough to get your son off to school.
