hidden twin on ultrasound exam

I have had an ultrasound three times now (12wks, 15wks, and 19wks)  The first one was to check for a twin pregnancy, which they only saw one, and with the other two the tech never looked for a twin at all eventhough I hinted towards them into looking. I have measured atleast a month ahead since I was 12 wks and I have felt movement since 12wks (which made the dr check for twins) I felt that the dr was rather quick as he was way behind with his patients.  I had an emply bladder (I thought that you were not supposed to for an u/s)I also had morning sickness a couple of times and didn't have any with my first two pregnancies, I have been in maternity clothes since 8wks, I have gained 30lbs,had really bad headaches and have been dreaming of twins even before the dr thought it was twins, twins run on my side of the family as well. I also am hungry every two hrs, have to use the bathroom atleast once and hour.  I am now 24wks 5 days and I feel like I am having twins (I have always thought this) I can feel the baby move under my ribs on the right side and down in my pelvic area on both sides at the same time.  What I want to know, is it possible that the first doctor missed the twin and the other two techs didn't see one as they thought that there was no need to look for one?  Could I have a second baby hiding in there and it not have been seen?  I see my OBGYN in two weeks and I feel silly bringing this up to her if there is no way that this could be possible.  Any input on this would be great.  Sorry to make this so long.  Thanks.

I believe that I am having twins too,so far I've had three ultrasounds that were less than a minute, only to check for a heartbeat, but on my ultrasound pictures, it looks as if there is another baby behind the first.I will have my 12week ultrasound in a few days.I really hoping to get a confirmation of one or two babies.

I'm having my 5th baby in September. I'm in the same boat. I have had 4 perfectly healthy babies and except my first pregnancy whigh I gained 50 lbs, I've only gained a max of 25lbs during the other 3 pregnancy. I've already gained 20 lbs at 23 weeks. This is odd for me. I've had 4 c sections so my tummy always looks like I'm pregnant just because I've never fully worked off everything from my first. I look HUGE even for me. I've compared previous pregnancies of mine to this one and I'm seriously huge. I had my ultrasound at 7 weeks but they only saw one....HOWEVER my last 2 pregnancy I had to have my ultrasound over the stomach and not vaginally because the multiple c sections seemed to flip my uterus up. So maybe since they did it that way they couldnt see another...I don't know. I had my 2nd u/s at 18w4d...everything went fine. Literally that day after getting home my mother in law made the comment that she had a strong intution that I was having twins(and unfortunately she had never been wrong about her intuition) I know this isn't something to go off up if the only reason I'm bringing it up is because she got me curious because I am very big. I went back and looked at my u/s photos...I swear to you in 2 pics there is a hand and arm in one and an arm and shoulder or something. One of the drs (multi Dr practice) has measured me at 20 weeks but she definitely didn't measure correctly because I feel my uterus much higher. At 23 weeks I measure at 32 weeks. Comparing myself from my last pregnancy I look the same that I did around 32-34 weeks. I'm going to the Dr on Tuesday to ask him if it's possible because the way I feel and the movement I feel....if actually be very surprised if there wasn't twins in there.

everyone has said they were going to update and haven't seen one update I am having the same questions I will be 32 weeks tomorrow and when I went to the doctor at 30 weeks I was measuring 33 weeks also I was told at 20 weeks that I was having a girl and at 29 weeks that it is a boy they will not do anymore ultrasounds because my insurance will not pay for them and I don't have the money to pay $160 for one I see indications that there may be 2 and also my grandmother had a hidden twin didn't know until delivery and lost one because the doctor didn't catch it and left the room immediately after my aunt was born twins run in my family and my husbands I am very curious as to what happened with your stories thank you

This is my first.  I am 8w3d, clueless, and just had my first u/s.  When she first did the u/s on my belly, she said she thought she was seeing 2 babies, so she needed to go "in" to be sure.  After further examination, she said it was only 1...and the other object was the sac.  However...it sure doesn't look like a yoke sac because I've googled images.  Hmmm.  Guess we shall see?  I'm wondering if the supposed yoke sac is anther baby.  Thoughts anyone?  Anyone experience the same?

I had an ultrasound less than two weeks ago and I was told a girl and you couldn't see any male parts, I was sick last week and was in the hospital so I had a follow up appt this week and this morning the ultrasound showed it was a boy you could visiably see the parts. The tech took the thing off for like 2 seconds put it back on and there baby couldnt tell if it had any parts and it was completely turned around.. (they couldn't get it to hardly move bc the appt was so early it would stretch then go right back in place said it was sleeping) I have already bought tons of girl clothes now it shows a boy. The friday before last i had an ultrasound that showed girl and heart rate was 157 got sick over the weekend had to go to the er heart rate was 136 wed went to my dr and it was 152 today i went and it was 134 so I'm not sure if they are picking up two different babies. I found out late in my pregnancy at 18 weeks i was even pregnant so didn't have the early ultrasounds done I am now 21 weeks and have gained almost 33 lbs and it has came in the past few weeks. I'm not eating any different or anything. Can you tell better with a 3d or 4d ultrasound if they have missed a baby. Mine could be side by side and it get missed bc my right side stays hard where (it) stays and sometimes I can feel kicks or hits in two diff places at once i know it could be arm and leg at the same time but any light would help if anyone had this issue later in the second trimester and being fresh to find out.

U're not alone..I felt the same..big measured..gain 6kgs in 1st trimester and another 1.7kgs more in a month ..i'm 17w now and glad no morning sickness at all till now..i had 2 u/s at 12w & 16w..but still c 1 baby..still hoping for a miracle to see there's two babies in there bcoz both u/s seem done very fast..*yes,govt clinic..f.o.c and i'm foreigner,i dnt hv my right to push them to check properly* anw,i'm going to go to private clinic around 25w to check bby gender and to satisfy myself..:-)..good luck all..doesn't matter it's 1 or twin but i need to make SURE,so that i can prepare myself earlier..nothing WRONG to be so curious for a twin when twins run in ur family!God bless..1 or 2..both miracle..cheers!..

i had a vag sono at 4w3d ONE yolk, one dot. 20 week tummy u/s two boys one placenta two membranes...not inclination at all for excess weight I had no morning sickness and no one picked up a second heartbeat in 4 doppler scans....sooo explain that one... unless it was an eclipse ...not likely, also if twins should be fused together that late why arent mine? I dont think they have enough fact to make accredited claims...

im 35weeks pregnant with twins, i found out when i was 6weeks,i had my u/s and the sonographer had seen two heart beats, so to make sure she did a internal u/s so that she knew she definatly saw two heart beats and also brought in another sonographer in to be 100% sure.I didnt feel any movements untill i was about 20weeks but had a bad case of all day sickness. My babies have showed up in every scan, and at 24 weeks the babies are noticeable and you definatly can't miss them although in saying that i have an aunty who was pregnant with twins but didnt know, she had u/s on a regular basis but only showed 1 baby untill she had given birth she went into labour twice and gave birth to 1 healthy 7lb girl and a not so healthy 1lb baby girl who unfortunatly didnt make it because of her size... So it could be possible..but with the high tec machines they have today i still think its rare to miss a twin pregnancy....

Hi there all, im now 8+2 days today and had a scan last week, i'm convinced its twins and one is hiding if you look at my scan the baby looks like there are 2 faces but looks also like there is 2 cords.

Iv been really sick for 4 weeks showing already and can keep anything greasy down. Also in the next breath feel hungry nearly ever hour. I keep getting some lower pain but tech said there is nothing to worrie about.

I have a small sac of blood i just woundering if this could be a mistaken twin lol.

Something just tells me its twins my boobs are killing and gone mega huge, and iv never had this feeling before and i have 7 already and lost 2 sets of twins in the past.

Can someone advice me of simptoms of having twins and also does anyone have a scan to see what a hidden twin scan looks like.

dont believe the doctors, no matter what anybody says technology is not error-proof! MY IDENTICAL TWINS, DETECTED ON MY 6TH ULTRASOUND AT 26 WEEKS, ARE LIVING PROOF OF THAT! my sons, born 7/9/09, are male mo-mo twins which account for .75% of all twins which could be the reason for all this hiding business. i had my first ultrasound @ 13 weeks, and 5 subsequent ultrasounds between 13-26 weeks gestation (because my uterus measured larger than average, they were searching for excess water or a tumor since no other fetus had been seen). alllll my ultrasound pics up until 26 weeks show only one fetus. they could offer me no explanation for this. i had 3 different ultrasound technicians/ ob gyns and none hinted at twins until my 6th ultrasound at which point my uterus measured typical to 9 months gestation. and there was no significant size difference between the twins, born @ 5lbs 6 oz and 5 lbs 5 oz. hopefully youve had your baby(ies) by now-  if they are hidden twins, please share with the world and let them know that TECHNOLOGY IS NOT ERROR PROOF!

No modern, correctly performed ultrasound misses a twin.  I hope everything works out the way you want it to, though.

I've known a woman who recently had twins and they didn't know until she delivered...so it can happen. We're in the same boat with my daughter. This is her first pregnancy.First sono showed 2 intermitent heartbeats then only one. @ days later, sono showed 1 baby. A month later the doppler heartbeat had one loud heartbeat & one faint echo yet the sono showed 1 baby still, excpt this time a small part of a 2nd fluid sac was poking out from behind the top side of the visible baby's sac. My daughter has felt movement since 14 weeks, at 16wks you could actually see the littletush of a baby pushing up & out one side of her belly, and she's been in maternity clothes since she was 10 wks. Now granted, my daughter is not a plus size normally but she is no stick figure either. She has a little extra fluff around her middle normally so I would think everything I listed above wouldn't be happening so soon. Twins run in our family too. She'll get her 18 - 20 wk sono soon....hopefully we'll know for sure with this one so we can plan properly. Good Luck to those still wondering like us!!!

OK, so I'm FEELING THE SAME thing....I'm measuring 6 weeks ahead (at 24 weeks I was measuring 30 weeks)....now I'm freaking out and just wondering if this person ever did have twins?  I've had U/S at 8w, 12w and 20w...now I'm 26 weeks and outgrew all my maternity tops...I have proof of two different movements on video and hopefully getting a scan....she's notthe only crazy one....at my 20w scan, I TOLD the guy to scan my right rib because i was feelng kicks there at 14 weeks...he just LAUGHED at me!  Thank god i'm not the only one that's been denied....I just wish this woman came back on here and updated this!!!  I'd love to prove this doctor that I'm right and he's wrong!!  I'll def be on to update myself in 13 days :)

i am having twins. they knew at 5 weeks. you could not miss them on every ultrasound. i am not nearly hungry as every one else because i feel full all the time. i had early movement and i do pee alot. the point is with twins you have two heartbeats. dopplers would catch that and make the doc look further, and it's darn near impossible to miss them on ultrasound after they get out of the pelvis.

oh and i am measuring 7 weeks ahead but at 23 weeks i have only gained 12 pounds. my twins sacs are one on top o the othere so i feel movement pretty constant, but usually in the same area all the time.

sorry to jump on the bandwagon, but i think it's one active little baby. good luck :)

A big baby, extra fluid, baby lying certain ways can all make you measure bigger. At 37 weeks I measured 46 (and I am only 5ft tall), I was carrying an 8lb10oz baby that was breech and I had a case of too much amniotic fluid. I had a csect at 37 weeks, can you imagine how big I would have been full term?!
