how to sleep?

Ive heard that its bad to sleep on your back because it can slow blood flow to the uterus. Why is it recommended to sleep on your left side? I tend to toss and turn from side to side. Occasionally I sleep halfway on my side, halfway on my stomach. I am almost 12 weeks.

Left, it is also for your breathing.... all the above can be corect... but I just see that it is easier to breath when laying on the left side... more oxygen getting through when on left side... although I go to sleep on left side I wake up most of the time on my right side

You can sleep In whatever way you are comfortable. As they said in previous post, the ideal would be on your left side.

If you like sleeping on your back, then do so. It's true too much weight of the belly could press on your veins and make you feel dizzy. Butmy midwife told me to just put under my feet some pillows so they would be above my heart when laying down . That fixes the blood return issue of sleeping on your back!

I've been told sleeping on your back is fine. I do it a lot and I'm 35 weeks - its the only way I can get really comfy. Your body will tell you when you can't handle it anymore - you will start to feel sick from the pressure.

All your main organs are on your right side you only have like your spleen and your left kidney on the left side. No, your heart is not technically on your left side.  I went to ER because I was having issues and this is what they told me. I always also on my right side just because it's what's comfortable to me.  If you aren't comfortable just move,  they say it's not ideal, but not that you MUST sleep on your left side. I find myself on my back sometimes but it hasn't turned into anything serious. (I'm 31 weeks) good luck, don't over think things and always ask your doc for pertinent information not just us.  ;)

Left side! also use a body pillow, it will honestly be a lifesaver.. I'm 40 weeks in and I've used the pillow since 12weeks. Good luck! try to stay off your stomach and back forsure.

They highly suggest the left side because that is the side your heart is on and blood flows better/easier if you lay on your left side. They say not to lay on your back after the first trimester because I believe the pressure on your spine could potentially cut off blood flow to your brain. Let me find where I read about that and correct my post if I'm wrong...

Left side also is the way your bowels go so it helps with bm . I also toss and turn but usually wake up on my back the only way I avoid it is if I sleep on the couch

Sleeping in your left side also papers your blood pressure and helps with your breathing

Because your liver is on the right side and sleeping on the left side keeps the pressure off of your liver.

Not sure why they say left side. I have heard back is bad. I'm 37 weeks and can't lay in any position for too long. I want so bad to sleep on my back just to try to get more then 15-20 min of sleep..
