inducing at 39 weeks

My doctor recently told me that they typically don't let their patients go pay 39 weeks.   I'm wondering if this is a fairly common practice now?   I haven't had a baby in 5+ years so wondering if it's just a new thing now.   TIA!

No. My doctor waits until 42, except if you have any health issues or a large baby

I was induced 6 years ago because of back pain and me being uncomfortable it's not really a reason to induce but Dr let me ... It's not normally something they just do they normally want you to go on your own

Where I'm from they typically wait until 41 weeks to induce. I think 39 weeks is kind of a silly time to induce across the board. No wonder c section rates are rising. I was induced at 42 weeks with my second, and was in active labor within fifteen minutes - all because my body was ready. At 39 weeks, I doubt it would have been such a success.

I think its something a lot of drs are starting to do.... I'm 38 wks now, and I'll be 39 wks on Tuesday, and my Dr set up an induction date for weds. I am completely healthy and so is my baby girl, so no reason to take her early. But I'm not complaining lol with only a week left till my due date I've been miserable and I'm glad to know that by Thursday morning I'll be holding my baby girl. Its nice to not be playing the "when is she coming" waiting game anymore. I am a nervous wreck though lol

No that's not common practice although I do see a lot of women now getting induced early. At my doctor's office they will not induce until 41 weeks unless medically necessary. 40 weeks is the average length of a natural pregnancy and anywhere between 38-42 weeks would be  normal though it's considered safe to deliver after 37. Also, in my state doctor's are not even allowed to induce before 39 weeks unless medically necessary. If you go past 42 weeks it becomes risky not to deliver so a lot of doctors will not let you go past 42. As Cass plus one said, it's your body and your decision. If you're comfortable with it then that's up to you. But if you're not, then don't let them do it.

I'll be having #2 at 39+3 simply because my first was very large when I went past my due date.  Even going a week early she's on track to be over 8lbs

No this is not normal unless you have a condition that would cause this to be needed. Pregnancy is 40weeks and sometimes you need to go a bit longer.  You can say no to the induction it's you right to not be pressured in to anything. Just remember it's your body
