is gettinag a membrane sweep at 38.6 weeks bad?

I'm 38.6 weeks and I saw a different ob today because mine is overbooked and ahe offered and gave me a membrane sweep. I was almost 4cm dilated. In yoir opinion was it a bad call to do the sweep? Oh yea and now im having crazy contractions.. p.s. contractions suck.

Awesome idea! I had my daughter with in 24 hrs of my sweep! Yea contractions r not the best feeling!  And good luck!

Wow that's great congrats mama. I had the same thing done this past Wednesday 39 wks 5d but with a different ending :( . 4 1/2 cm dilated when she did the sweep n still no baby contractions like crazy but irregular hopefully it's doing something n baby will be here soon.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Thank you for the responses. An hoyr after the sweep i had contractions. I went in and was almost 5cms for 4 hours, was sent home came back to the hospital, 4 hours went back to hospital and was almost 6cm. :) my God the pain. ..unbelievable. i was admitted given an iv pain relief and than an epidural The relief after the epidural was epic. By than i was 7cms dilated a few mins later my water broke, i fell asleep for 6hours at 620am i woke up and i started to push 34 mins later Mr. Garett Allan was born!! 7lbs 2oz!!!

I had one done with my second daughter 2 days before her due date and had her the same night good luck. Plus the sweep only works if your body is ready and being that you were 4cm your body is ready.

I had that done at 38 weeks and was dilating 4 cm and that night i started.with contraction

If your almost 4cms this should help you loads. Best of luck xx

The sweep is normal after you hit 38. If you are having contractions time them if they are at the 5 min marker got to the hospital. Good luck.

I don't think so. You're full term. You're so close. .. Don't see why anyone would think it's bad.
