I was dreading the 250+ cost of a medela electric double pump.. called my insurance today and its covered for free!! No co pay. Awesome. I encourage everyone who plans on breast feeding to see if yours does to. Im with united health care :) sooo happy.

That is definitely good to know. I know that my insurance covers a belly band for support when I get heavy but I haven't asked what my insurance covers as far as breast pumps go yet. I'm hoping for a medela because the glass bottles we got are said to be a perfect fit for it. Not to mention so many women I know swear by that brand. I'll have to give them a call on monday. :D

I ordered my breast pump weeks ago as well. I have United HealthCare and they covered 100% as well.

I got mine a couple weeks ago and it's a medela! Anthem blue cross covered it 100% as well.... I'm so glad I didn't have to pay for that out of pocket between buying everything else for baby that would have added another big expense!

That's wonderful news mushe. I was curious if UHC covered the Medela double electric pump. Was also happy to hear that we no longer have to wait until baby is born to receive pumps.

It is one of the awesome perks for women under the affordable health care act! Insurance companies BY LAW must cover the cost of breast pumps! That may only be a rental and they may limit the brands but still. .. Whoohoo!

I placed my order online with one of the DME providers - my ins co gave me 3 to choose from. I went with Byra . Super easy. They had 4 or so to choose from.

I agree with you Nitrah, I was shocked at my options. I thought I was going to only get a manual which I have no patience for.

@muhshe ... yes the only stipulation is it has to be ordered by certain companies. I believe it has to be a DME company

Lucky, my insurance company covered some in full but not the medela model which is the one the hospital used, worked beautifully. The one we ordered does not work as great and not as user friendly to me but it came with so much stuff. I'll keep it but the medela brand was way better.

Maybe give them a call. I think there was a law that changed and insurance companies are required ti cover cost of a new one to keep or a rental.
