name spelling??

Hi all! We have been considering the name Maia for our baby girl. My husband is from Spain and that is the Spanish way of spelling, but my family keeps saying it should be Mya or Maya because people will be confused and she'll have to deal with a lifetime of name corrections. What do you all think of the spelling Maia or Maiya? Is it really that confusing or just me being sensitive to other people's negative opinions? Thanks all!

I haven't seen it spelled like that. But when I saw it I immediately pronounced it like maya. So I say if that's how you want to spell it stick with it! Sounds like people are being difficult, it is fine how it is!

I think Maiya is cute...never seen it spelled like that but i am partial to Y's. My sons name is Kai so i think it is phonetically spelled....it will be fine

I think you should keep it. My name is Brittney but everyone spells it BRITTANY. I just kindly correct it and keep going lol. She's be fine with Maia!!!

Maia is cute! My names Lindsey but its spelled Lynsi. Everyone always says how unique it is n that they like it. I do have to repeat myself a few times on how to spell it but it doesn't bother me at all! :)

Maia is beautiful. I am from Croatia and my baby girls will be spelled Maja. That's how it's spelled there, and I have no intention of changing it. Propale can just  get over it and get used to it. I don't believe we have to conform to please the society we live in.

I'm from Holland and maia is commonly spelled like that here, so for me it is a very natural way to spell the name!
