one hour glucose screening

Did anyone here have their blood drawn before the one hour test? I just did and never had that done before ..always just afterwards...the lab lady said they don't usually ask for that..just curious if anybody else's Dr requested that and do you know why?

I have to have it before and after the sugar test but I believe it's because I have been really anemic with all my babies..

Oh okay..I'm not sure why they did it for me then ..I'm not anemic that I know of..blood work always makes me nervous for some reaso ..thanks for the response

yes, they took my blood before the test, and they always do here, just to check your sugar level on your empty stomach and if you produce enough insuline. I was told not to eat or drink except water from the night before.  In some cases GD is very bad, and blood sugar can be very high even if you haven't eat or drink anything.

Yea is before and after I ate the night before and ate something really small that day and a lot of water and came out good

My OB make 3 of those test throughout pregnancy. She wants to make sure that I don't get gestational diabetis  and they also check for any STD just to make sure the babyis always safe. I ask her and she said  that is a procesure and she makes all her pregnant patient take those test.

To be honest its suppose to be done before so they can make sure your levels are not already high before giving yu such a sweet drink...in case their is a chance yu may go into a sugar coma or shock lockout or anything...lots of places don't test before but all should

I just did mine last week and where I live they make you do the 2 hour one. They took blood first and checked my urine then gave me the drink and checked 1 hour mark and 2 hour mark.

I did my yesterday ..I did the 2 hr one they took blood 3x my arms r bruised now ugj

They are supposed to draw blood before hand, because if you levels are too high or low they will not allow you to take the test.

They only took my blood at the end of my one hour test, same with my sister.

They won't let you take the test if you had eaten or drank anything two hours prior to the test though. I'm assuming that's why they didn't do blood draw at the beginning, because your levels should be low enough if you haven't ingested anything.
