pregnant & breastfeeding

my MIL & GIL (grandma in-law) told me I should stop breastfeeding my almost 10 month old because I'm pregnant! my GIL pretty much said I takes away nutrients from both the baby and unborn! what??!! I read about it and said its okey to breastfeed while pregnant that my body will make the colostrum? when the baby is born, sorry this is more or a rant then a question, what is your opinion ladies?

There's a nipple guard type thing you can put on your breast to protect it. Check it out on babies-r-us

I'm 16 weeks and nursing a 21 month old with no plans to stop. She has only bitten me a handful of times. The first time (around 10 months also) I immediately took her off my breast and put her on the floor at my feet and said "no bite, that hurts Mommy". It was less than 10 seconds before I picked her back up and let her continue but it worked. And I went on and on praising what a good nurser she was bc she was gentle, etc. Since becoming pregnant I've talked to her about being gentle and remind her "no bite" a lot and she seems to get it. Good luck!

I try to tell my son to be soft or to open wider if need be. We also stopped using sippy cups with the hard plastic mouth piece, that seemed to help the most. We use the sippy cups with the soft rubber straws it helps him to get the right kind of suction. Also short spurts of feeding and lots of lanolin helped.

Also it does hurt a lot at times, hormone shifts make it hard especially with a toothy toddler. My son has 16 teeth and has always had trouble with his latch. So if you do decide to stick with it know that it won't be easy and you may want to cry at times because pregnant nipples are sooo sensitive.

I'm 33 weeks with my second baby and still nursing my 21 month old.  Your babies will both be completely fine, it doesn't steal nutrients from your baby, all will be fine. My unborn son is huge and my oldest is eating regular meals so nursing is more for comfort. It is a good way to ensure you older baby doesn't feel left out when new baby arrives if you choose to tandem nurse. My son doesn't show any signs of weaning so I'm happy nursing him if that's what he wants.

Im pregnant between 5-7 weeks.  Im nursing my 19 month old and dont want to stop.  I have talked to lalache coach, and nurse at ob office and they said as long as I am healthy to go for it!  I would recommend the same for yoy!  You have two months to enjoy your baby a little more.

Im 16 weeks and still nursing my 12 month old during the night 3-4 times or a few minutes each time. She also has teeth and sometimes bites but I'm waiting to see if she can self ween soon and just sleep the whole night. I don't go based off of opinions my mil or my own family gives me if it goes against my research and doctors opinion. My doctor said it was safe as long as it didn't cause bleeding and cramps were not too bad. Not everyone can do it. But as long as you are well nourished your baby will have all the nutrients needed while in the womb. Its only not good for the baby if you don't eat well/enough. And your 10 month old is eating solids already and not too dependent on your milk so i dont see how that would be a problem.I also read that tandem nursing (nursing both your newborn and toddler) could help discourage sibling jealousy because your toddler still gets mommy time at the breast. My doctor thinks it's hilarious that i want to try it because he hasn't met a patient yet that has done that but i read online a lot of moms  do it. I wonder if my girl will still want to breastfeed! We'll see :)

I think if you are concerned you should talk with your doctor about it. I've known people to do this also and it didn't harm either baby. I say do what you want. Don't let other people tel you what you should do. Good luck :)
