sac visible/no fetal pole or embryo

i am sorry if this is not the correct forum, but i am posting on behalf of a friend who is due early sep 2014. Shortly after her first bfp she started to spot pinkinsh blood and went to see a doc jus incase. nothing cudnt be seen on the ultrasound but her hcg levels were doubling. she went back a week later and a sac could be seen but no fetal pole so doc concluded late conception and figured she cant be anymore than 4 weeks or less. she went back a week later, the sac was still there but still no fetal pole. the thing is as well, shes been spotting light pink to brownish dry blood on n off pretty much since finding out she was pregnant. due to no change in the sac and the spotting doc said it doesnt look good. ive read online about blighted ovums, and the body can sometimes take awhile to expel the empty sac. anyone had this happen n still have a healthy pregnancy? she is due to go back this saturday.
