shots during pregnancy

Hey ladies im 12 weeks 4 days and I'm breaking out with a horrible itchy rash all over my legs and it's been spreading i called my dr he said just use benadryl and cortisone cream (which I've been doing) but the nurse recommended going get a steroid shot.  My question is have any of you gotten that type of shot during first trimester/pregnancy? And did it cause any problems?

Steroids are used for many purposes. I'm pretty sure it won't harm your baby a doctor wouldn't compromise the baby's health or development. Try to find the source of the reaction because if you plan to nurse and you are still having problems after the pregnancy steroids won't let you breastfeed. I had a csection my last pregnancy and reacted to some medication I was given and I had to have steroids shots after and it dried my milk. Good luck hope you feel better

My doc said that steroids are problematic in the first trimester because they can cause cleft pallet, so definitely make sure that you get all the facts before you get the shot.

Thanks ladies I switched to the aveeno natural fragrance free skin relief. It seems like it might be poisin ivy, oak, or sumac. I will go to a dr tomorrow. Thanks again for your advice!

If your nurse knows you are pregnant, they won't prescribe anything dangerous.
And do switch soaps and laundry detergent, go with totally unscented dye free if it is an allergic rash. But rashes can have many many causes, even just stress can cause hives. Go to your Primary Care doc and have them look at the rash, since there some viruses, bacteria and funguses that cause rashes too. Benadryl and steroids will not do jack against those.
I've had many rashes in my life, so can empathizes

I don't think the steroids hurt the baby. If anything itwill help the baby's lungs develop.  I would double check with your OBGYN just to be safe though.

I know pregnancy changes how your body reacts to certain chemicals. Maybe you should switch up your hygiene products??  I thought steroids were used if you're in danger of going into labor. Weird
