strep B

I tested positive for strep b and this is my second child. I don't remember testing positive with my first son. Will I always test positive for it? How did I get it, does it go away? A little freaked out

Thank you Cecilia Morgan. I was reading the comments like ..whaaaaat?.
Also, I wish that it was that easy to.clean your gut out and test negative for it, I eat garlic and take a shot of AC vinegar everyday, and I'm a pro biotic queen~i still tested positive.
At the original poster-dont worry yourself about it, one 1 in 800 babies will contract it from their moms-without antibiotics at delivery, so with antibiotics your baby will be fine. Testing positive really had me stressed because I hate the thought of being bound by an IV, and I'm not keen on antibiotics, but-even though Thr risk is small,it is very harmful to babies if passed, so as a precautionary measure I'll take them :-) best wishes

Ok I just read A LOT of wrong information about group b strep in these posts. #1 we all have this bacteria however sometimes we become 'colonized' which for baby during birth can lead to infection of the baby a lot of complications. #2 no intelligent doctor is going to test brute about 35 weeks bc you could be positive at 12 weeks and neg at 36 weeks and vise versa. Taking meds at 11 weeks helps now but won't later bc you can become colonized again later! Also you can test positive one pregnancy and not in another. If you test positive when your cultured around 36 weeks you will need iv meds during labor to ensure baby does not get infected.

Well, the antibiotics they give you are dangerous...! Read about it online... I read an article about it and one guy said his son became deaf after taking these anibiotics, that's sooo scary.... I just had that test, hopefully I don't have that bacteria.....

Yeah, that's what a nurse from my health insurance plan said too! She was really surprised, but as long as the antiobiotics didn't pose a threat to the baby I was fine with it. I lost my baby at 8wks last year, after all kinds of issues, so I was just happy to get it out of the way. Hopefully that will be the last of it

It comes and goes in all women. Pregnant or not. You could have it and not even know. It's not dangerous for you, but it would be for baby as the baby would come in contact with it during birth. @VML143 wow they tested you early. Usually they wait till the last tri mester.

I just finished 7 days of antibiotics because I tested positive for Strep B. The high dosage of amoxicillin gave me a yeast infection and diarreah which really sucked, but it was completley safe for the baby. I'll be 11 wks this Saturday, and my Dr. told me it's nothing to be concerned about. It's not sexually transmitted or anything like that. It's like a bacteria, don't worry!!

It lives in all of our guts but sometimes your vagina or rectum get colonized.  My midwife told me before hand to test negative for the strep b test to take apple cider vinegar, probiotics, and vitamin c. It keeps your gut clean, healthy & full of good flora.  Garlic is good too.  So, I've taken that all of my pregnancy, upped it the week of my test & tested negative.

You can potentially start all that now and then ask for a retest in a week if you don't want to take the antibiotics they will give you.
