tanning & breatsfeeding!?

Alright mommas I have a question if I want to go tanning indoors does it affect my breast milk? I don't care about the side effect ie cancer & premature aging. If I did go I was gonna leave a breast pad on because I do not want my nipple to get burnt, talk about painful. But anyways back to the point lol does anyone have any insight on this?

No clue in regards to if it affects your breastmilk or not, but you should care about the side affects that tanning can cause bc you have a baby now. :)

Everything is linked to cancer how a days so my concern with tanning and cancer isn't real big. & thank you mw89 I am gonna talk to her at the next appointment. I was just curious as to what other people have been told or if they have done it!

Tan skin is unhealthy skin. If you have to get a tan go to professional spray tanner. Im having this same debate with my prego bff as I write this;) and ive had skin cancer therefore dont tan in a bed anymore. And wear sunscreen daily. Everyone is different though!

Not sure about the breast milk but @mw89 u shouldn't be tanning while pregnant its not safe to do while pregnant. U risk ur body temperature going to high and causing issues for ur baby so not smart to be tanning while pregnant.

Asked my doctor... You can tan through your whole pregnancy if you want... But you do need to watch your body temperature... Over heating can hurt the baby. I tan... My doctor said if I start to feel hot to get out of the bed simple as that.. Breastfeeding and tanning is fine as well. The UV light only penetrates four layers of your skin.. It will not reach your breast milk. Also for all the anti tanners...I value your opinion and you have a right to it.. But just so you all know skin cancer is not caused just by tanning...I have a close friend who never tans... Wears sunscreen and avoids the sun at all costs and she was diagnosed with skin cancer last year. I say if you want to tan then tan... If you don't want to tan then by all means don't... Less people taking up the tanning beds means less time I have to wait for one lol

Some people put a tan as their #1 priority over other things. People can only learn from their choices in life, and i feel bad for some people but I can't get mad bc it's their life not mine and I'm just glad my priorities in life don't involve things like tanning. If tanning makes someone happy and they know the consequences of what it could do and they don't care, their problem. I do however feel sorry for those family and friends that have to suffer if one gets skin cancer bc of it.

Never said it was my decision to make. Its just a very selfish decision for u to be making. Yes let's risk harm to my baby cuz I want to tan very very selfish thing to do. And no I'm not a Dr but u wouldn't know that cuz u knw nothing about me.

I'm not against tanning cuz I myself tan but while pregnant I give up tanning till my baby's born cuz nothing means more to me then the health of my baby and I wouldn't want to risk any harm. I take being pale for a little while.

It doesnt harm the baby. It only affects the first few layers of skin. And honestly this is the problem withwoman worrying too much about other ppeople's personal life. My choices have nothing to do with you and is it worth being judgmental when its not even bad for the baby. Its not like I am out doing cociane or anything. The orginal poster asked about anyones experience with it. Not what you think about tanning.

Yea hun not saying you personally, just talking about some people in general!  It's your choice all the way, and don't get upset when people just trying to say why they might think it's a bad idea, they are just giving you their advice or reason behind why or why wouldn't do it!  Like I said tho your choice :) i personally wouldn't do it, but that's my choice!

Just fyi to those choosing to tan while prego, using tanning beds lower your folic acid which is really important for baby especially in 1st trimester. I used to tan all the time and I did about 10 sessions in my first trimester but read info and felt guilty about it ao I stopped. I figured there are obviously medical concerns directly for baby otherwise it wouldn't be so controversial. And besides tanning beds are somewhat a newer thing who knows consequences years down the road. Just my opinion but ya maybe research it more before saying there's no harm to baby. Obviously there are potential risks, some people just choose to overlook the risks to do what favors there interests.

And I wasn't commenting my thoughts on tanning to the original poster I told her I didn't know bout the whole breast milk thing but I doubt it would do anything. I was commenting to u on ur decision to tan I can have my opinion and if u don't like it that's to bad. U don't want other peoples opinions then u shouldn't be posting out here for all to see keep what u do to itself. If not then ur leaving the door wide open for other peoples opinions plain and simple. Go ahead and do as u do not my problem I could care less what u do I'm just stating my opinion how I think it's very selfish. Cuz ur willing to risk rating ur core body temperature and doing that can result in fetal birth defects which ya may be rare but in my opinion not worth the risk but obviously for u it is.
