tattoos

I know most all moms are going to flip out over controversial topics like this but I just got to ask.. I have a good number of tattoos and have never once had anything go wrong with them as far as infections and stuff so I decided to get another one the other day its on my arm and feels and looks great.. I am 21 weeks pregnant but not really showing I read all the papers and saw nothing about pregnancy and risks associated with tattoos.. I could understand if you were getting one directly on your baby bump but like I said I got it on my arm.. Does any one els feel like its OK to do so uf you know your body your artist and your pain talorance ??.. I know for a fact that were I go is clean and safe. And I have wonderful hygiene So I feel there is nothing wrong with it

I personally would not get one during pregnancy and I don't believe a reputable tattoo artist would do one on a pregnant woman due to risk of infection. I was even told by my own artist that he would not do one even after birth until I was done breast feeding.

I don't know why you even posted this. It's not really a controversial topic when it's pretty much widely known that tattoos are not recommended during pregnancy. It's too bad you just couldn't wait. It's not like you have that much longer.

I don't understand why you would tattoo yourself during pregnancy.  Wouldn't you want to do everything you can to prevent any type of complications?  To each their own but I don't get why you would risk it when you don't have to.

I think the fact is, some people will take drugs have tattoos and drink stupid amounts regardless of the little life that is growing inside of them, personally everything potentially toxic to me or my baby during such a fragile time is off the cards (not suggesting im any of the above)
Pregnancy is not your right as a woman it is a gift that many women will never experience.

I had just decided on my next tattoo when I found out that I am pregnant. Needless to say i can wait until after my baby is born because I won't take even the smallest risk if harming my baby. Tattoos are nice, but a healthy baby is much more important to me

In August of 2012, I got a tattoo.  About a month later, I had to have it touched up. I ended up finding out about a week later I was pregnant. I was about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant when I got the tattoo. If I would have known that I was pregnant, I would have waited.  That's just my preference. I thought it was on the paperwork you sign for when you get a tattoo. Doesn't it go over that? I thought it was recommended not to get a tattoo while pregnant. Whatever floats your boat.

It really isn't going to hurt you or the baby to wait.

Lol I think it's safe to say anyone that risks an infection while pregnant is....well I don't have to even say it. If anything does happen let's just hope you can live with yourself after.

I've thought about it myself but figured it would cause too much stress to the baby honestly you'll probably be fine.  Not like you can take it back so just take care of the tattoo.

honestly it doesn't matter how clean a shop is. the concern comes from the ink which goes in your blood stream. i have tattoos as well and the needle pokes you idk only several hundred times! i wouldn't do it pregnant. that's something that could of waited. If they knew you were pregnant more then likely they wouldn't have tatted you. thats not professionalism

I once had a tattoo done on my right side near my pelvic bone when i was about 8 weeks pregnant. At the time i didnt know i was pregnant..i didnt get no infection and felt no abnormal pain. However had i of known i was pregnant i wouldnt have had one done. I agree with the ladies who say we only have to wait 9 months then you can do what you like. Id like a few more tattoos after this pregnancy but i will wait about a yr or so as i want to breastfeed too and this is something our tattoos recommend to leave until were finished feeding.

I think it was a bad idea and personally would never risk causing any harm or complications to my baby. I have tattoos but would never get one while pregnant.

I have about 19 tattoos,  i never gotten one while pregnant,  but the only risk is getting a staff infection.  Because since you are pregnant your immune system is a little lower then normal, and you can easily get sick or get infections. But that's about it, and an infection like that doesn't mean a dirty shop or dirty equipment. So as long as you take care of it, i think you will be fine. And if you have many tattoos I'm sure you will be taking care of it properly.  I'll be getting my tattoo for my baby a month or two after i have her.

I have tons of tattoos and definitely getting more but if I were you I would wait. Even if the tools and such are all clean your body right away sends out to heal your tattoo when all that good stuff should be going to your little one. And to help build your breast milk if you decided to breast feed.

I disagree completely with the lady above. You can do a simple search on line and get thousands of warnings not to get a tattoo during pregnancy.

The mercury is a concern (the comment about vaccines is ill informed), the fact that your immunity is lower during pregnancy is a concern, and not just with getting the tattoo, also taking care of it after.

The simple fact is, pregnancy is only 40 weeks, once the babyb is born, get as many as you like, but when you are pregnant you are making choices for 2, which is not fair when the other person doesn't get a say.

The baby does not feel the pain of a tattoo, nor does he or she feel the pain we feel. The risk is very small, that you would contract a disease. This would be a concern in a dirty shop. I would only be concerned about the mercury in tattoo inks... I'm not sure what the amounts are but I'd bet it's only a fraction of what's in the vaccines which are pumped right into our blood streams. You are right, there are very few warnings because there so few and small risks.

If you "know there is nothing wrong with it" then why ask on here? Just going to get a bunch of s*** for it.

I for one think it was a bad choice.

OMG.  As a wife to a tattoo artist shame on whoever inked ur body the risks of infection are very high due to your immunity  being low. Ur only pregnant for 9 months. Selfish of u not to wait smh

There's never a guarantee of no infection no matter how clean you think the place is. During pregnancy, your immune system is at its lowest so even small chance of infections should be taken seriously. I wouldn't think the tattoo is urgent enough to take a risk but if you've already done it then just please watch intently for any sign of infection

You aren't going to find many people who agree with you on here unfortunately. Pregnancy seems like forever but it really isnt and things can wait. Everything that goes into or on our body gets in our blood and reaches our baby. Period.
Hope it was worth it
