To clear up NOW they do not recommend pap smears until you are 21 (or test positive for hpv). An intravaginal ultrasound uses the same technology as a regular ultrasound which is to say, sound waves are produced and 'bounced' off of the baby/sack (or whatever other things they might look for as u.s. are used in many forms of medicine) these sound waves are then received and translated into an image. 3d/4d use higher frequency and computer enhacement/prediction to produce a more complete picture of the baby (most of these are elective and not covered by insurance). Intravaginal u.s. does not hurt, some may find the harder object a little uncomfortable,  but not at all painful, if it is something is wrong with your tech. To all of the women making fun of you, shame on you! Becoming more informed is why many of us are on here, inexperience is not something to make fun of!

@Scarlett. Really? I always assumed that once you started your period am became sexually active+in my state they swb for stds as well)  you should have yearly paps, regardless of age. I'm 25 and started having them at 16, and at 20 they found cervical cancer but because it was detected early I was able to get it removed non evasively. I supposeit wwould depend on where you live, but regardless its very very important.

It's like a penis. You can't feel it when it's inside you.
LOL YOU MADE MY DAY

It's not painful. Just like anything else phallic that has been up there lol They even put something similar to a condom on it. And yes, to b very blunt, it is kinda like a camera going up there. The most uncomfortable part is having to spread ur legs for a total stranger. Take solace tho, in the fact that the stranger knows what they're doing. Don't worry.

Also, I am 20 years old and have only had one pap smear in my life. I had it after a miscarriage and that was four years ago. Not all doctors recommend yearly pap smears until you are over 21.

The ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to generate a picture of your internal organs, in this case it would be your uterus. The sound waves generate moving images on the ultrasound machine which allows the ultrasound technician to see your baby and measure it. They will also measure and look at your ovaries and size of your overall uterus.

I didn't find it painful, I don't believe anyone should since honestly it's like a penis. Lol. Not too be graphic, but that's all it feels like and once it's in you really can't tell at all. It's just a better way to see baby in the very early stages instead of an abdominal ultrasound. And a pap smear is when they use a long q-tip to collect cells inside your vagina and they test for any abnormalities.

Your never had a pap smear :-O  its a very important swab of your cervix that checks for abnormalities in the cells that potentially cause cancer....... you should have one every year.
A vaginal ultrasound is used to look at your uterus, ovaries, and cervix. And in pregnancy *I think* its used to look in early stages when it wouldn't show as well abdominally.

A pap is when they swab the inside of the vagina to take a sample for tests. The ultrasound will measure the baby and check your uterus to see how far along you are

If you can handle a pap smear you will be fine. It's uncomfortable but not painful
