There will always be mixed opinions here. My advice is to consult your doctor and do what's best for you and your baby. Colostrum doesn't stop coming in until days after baby is born. If you are leaking which many women do it is not rare. Do some reading you will still find mixed opinions but hopefully it will help.
Thank u ladies. Afew mixed opinions there tho!
You can pump. I've read about the benefits of colostrum, it's an awesome immunity boost. Your body will keep producing it after you pump so you can pump as much as you want (after 37 wks as it can stimulate labour hormones). I'm planning on doing it this pregnancy as last time my 2 wk old got sick and I would have loved to have colostrum to boost her immunity. The colustrum will disappear around day 3 after bub is born when your normal milk supply comes in.
Yeah, the lactation specialist specifically told us not to try pumping prior to the birth. That it could cause breastfeeding issues and interrupt your natural supply. You usually don't start producing much until a couple days after birth.
The beginning of milk production, you will get this stuff that'd really thick and sticky, it's called collustrium or something like that. And that is packed with all the nutrients and vitamins and stuff that'll boosts the babies ammune system. That's what your baby needs when it's born. So i would highly suggest not to pump till 3 days after you been breastfeeding already.
(and I don't think**) spelling error..
U can store the milk in the lil baggies that comes with breast pads...
Not to my knowledge, ur body doesn't produce milk until 2-3 days after baby is born. Although I have heard that some ppl leak milk while pregnant, but that's rare endnotes don't think it would be enough to store milk for later.
Not until 37 weeks. So that you don't cause yourself to go into labor early. When you pump you pump into the bottles attached to the pump and pour the colostrum/milk into storage bags or whatever you chose to store your milk in.
