Rant. Sorry if this offends anyone.

I love pregnancy forums and think that it is a great way to get and give advice based on our own experiences. One thing that has been highly irritating to me and I'm not sure I can blame it on hormones is the way people talk in this forum. I love reading the posts but  automatically get annoyed when I read words like "dat , dis and mines"......seriously?

Am I the only one? If so I apologize...Some things are just irritating and more so when you are pregnant :(

Anywhere else like on fb im guilty of being grammer police but I only do this on my phone and usually on break at work or between doing stuff at home so im just trying to get my thoughts out there in a bit of a hurry so I do apologize cuz sometimes I hit post and see it pop up and go "**** I hope they speak gibberish"

Behold my fair maidens with Child, should the sun set upon our vexed tempers or perhaps should we embrace our divers tongues.  Oh at these crossroads we stand perhaps to ascend into the world of Complex utterings as of the Queens Speech or speak in jest...

I think MaiCarmi is right. We're entering a new age of communication, and with that comes a rewriting of the rules. Restructuring language has always made some people uncomfortable, but hegemonic English can be interpreted as oppresive to some people (and arguably with good reason). There is no "wrong" way, as long as you're able to get your message across. The idea that language is strict and unchanging is a leftover idea from colonial control. "Dis" and "dat" may seem incorrect, but they are as valid as any of the words you use. if language didn't change, we would still be speaking early modern English like Shakespeare, or middle English like Chaucer.

Lol, totally agree with @PDMOMMY.
I just deal with it,  and if I can't answer it I move on.
Let's enjoy our pregnancies as much as we can and try hard so these issues don't get to us. ;)

Here's what I think.. grow up!! So what if some people speak/type differently... we all dress differently,  look differently,  drive different vehicles, have different jobs/lifestyles.. we have different religions/beliefs.. who are you to judge anyone??

This post is hilarious! It used to bother me as well but I simply skip over those posts now. There's no way that we can correct each & every being who chooses to text/type a certain way. So to save myself from a frustrating headache, I overlook it & read the next post. Just FYI, I've felt this way even before pregnancy. Lol.

We all went to school.  We should all know proper grammar.  It is kind of annoying.  But everybody is different and try to go the easy way out.

My typing annoys me as weird as it sounds. My tablet doesnt auto correct but instead pops up with suggestions but doesnt correct it and hates the letter "g". One thing I cant stand but I see it everywhere is when someone capitalizes the beginning of every word. My husband does it to annoy the crap out of me.

That is the very reason why I've limited myself 2 this site...yes u can rant or whateva...Most of us do it because before we were limited on characters so it has become normal...And as far as education goes I graduated college in computer Information Systems & now about to have my LPN license so that has nothing to do with it...Some **** on here shouldn't even b mentioned...U ask 4 other people's opinions then get upset about the way they write it...WTH....

I can relate to both sides. I have a masters degree in social welfare and psychology, but this stupid new phone puts commas after each word. Most of the time I go back and errase them but some times I am too frustrated to do so. On my phone comma button is right next to space button.
However,  I have a hard time reading some of the posts on here which have poor grammer.

There are people from all over the world on here and from all different backgrounds so I think it's expected to see that some people type things maybe as they say it? And some people are less educated then others but again that's to be expected.  The teenage text speak is most likely from younger ladies who don't think anything of it at the time because they probably type like that to their friends etc. Sometimes the language barrier is just to confusing and i feel bad for those posters as no one seems to be able to make sense of the question. I got to say though my phone auto corrects everything and typing in English and using correct punctuation and stuff is so easy as does it all for me lol :)

You are right too newluv and maicarmi.  In the end who cares,  I guess a post is a post whether it's grammatically correct or not. I think treksy was just trying to say that some are difficult to read because of lack of punctuation :)

I think this post and those that determines someone's educational background on slang are pretty much petty heauxs ....how is that for grammar? (Just kidding) When I read certain posts, I do understand everyone is not in the same age bracket and everyone does not live the lifestyle where perfect grammar is required.

I agree with you trekys. I understand if English is a second language,  absolutely!  But the run on sentences drive me nuts.  I try and just skip over them but I'm too stubborn and spend 5 minutes trying to figure out what it trying to be said lol.

What are you talking about? Im saying if someone has bad spelling and grammar then its really not a huge deal in the big scheme of things.
My oldest friend...of 20 yrs cannot spell. Or write very good. To a point where she couldn't help my child with her homework when she babysat for me. I love her dearly. I am not in any way being uncivil but getting a text message from that friend is like reading a foreign language.
This is the last time I comment on this because it's becoming problem, you totally misunderstood what I was saying.

I didn't read through the comments completely,  but I don't think people are being "petty" by being annoyed by that. I can handle bad spellers. Typing "dis and dat" isn't caused by the inability to spell. It's caused by people who speak that way so they type that way. It sounds stupid and uneducated weather spoken or typed and is completely unnessesary. There, I said it.

Hmm.. i'm from africa, its not like we dont speak or write good english, but i restrict my term of abrrevating words within african friends and family and not outside africans because they might not understand. e.g nt, cn, b4, bc, m, 2day. which is not, can, before, because, today and so on...

Nobody ever said poor grammar and spelling makes anyone a bad person! You're allowed to have personal annoyances. The only people who's spelling and grammar I correct are my kid's! That's my job!
Do I actually care if someone here spells like crap? No. Lol It's just hard to decode sometimes!

Exactly. Just thought maybe if I said it that it would alleviate some of my personal frustration or find that it's not just me and what others think about it. Someone may open my eyes on how to let those annoyances go because they are small in relation to more important things. With that being said this post was after listening to someone eating with their mouth open....lol

Although I use correct spelling,  If I understand what they are typing it doesn't bother me. I have came to learn that we live in a new day in age. Dat means That. Dis means This. If you live in Atlanta like me it's common. Depends on where and how you are raised.  Sad that a whole posting was made about it. If you want to be real, I think saying "bum" instead of "butt" is weired, but I am not from that area and respect how they use their words
