Brown spotting, then light period. PREGNANT?!
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can help me as I'm a little confused!
I'm 20 years old and have been with my boyfriend for over 3 years now. We both know what we want and are both in stable jobs. Around 20 months ago we decided that we wanted to start a family (I know some may say we're young but it's what we want and have had serious talks about it and know its what we want).
So we have been trying for nearly 2 years now and have had no luck. I have been to the hospital to check everything's okay and everything was clear and the doctor just said it can take a year before getting pregnant! Now before I explain my symptoms I just wanna tell you a bit about my normal periods so you can understand a little better.
My periods are irregular! They normally come on about a 35 day cycle. Some months it may be a little longer like 40 days. They ALWAYS last 5-7 days. At the beginning I'm heavy, having to change tampon regularly and have to sleep with pad in and the on the 6th and 7th day it's a lot lighter. It's always been the same way!
Today is Thursday 24.11.11. My last period was in the last week of September 2011, I think it started around the 25.09.11. So anyway last month (October) I had usual cramps expecting my period but it never came.
At the beggining of this month round the 9.11.11 onwards, have had on and off of feeling a little sicky but doesn't last long apart from one day when it seemed to stick around for a bit longer than usual.
Last week on the 14th and 15th November I started experiencing lower back pain down the right side. Last Thursday evening (17th), before going bed, I noticed some brown discharge/spotting on the tissue when I wiped and put a pad in thinking this was the start of my period. Anyway next morning I woke and there was NOTHING on the pad what so ever! All day when I went to the loo I was checking the tissue and was still noticing this brown spotting. It never went onto my underwater just the tissue. So this lasted all weekend, until on Sunday night there seemed to be slightly more blood. Once again nothing was on the pad when I woke up Monday morning, but when wiping was noticing this blood. All day Monday I had this strange feeling in my stomach. It felt as thought I had spent all day Sunday in the gym doing sit ups, or throwing up! I dunno if you know what I mean but it was that pulling mussel feeling in you tummy? When I coughed or laughed it pulled. I've never had that before with a period! So anyway this 'light' bleeding carried on and has finally stopped today and now I am just noticing really faint brown spotting (lighter than the start). I'm so confused as to what it can be, I dunno if anyone else has had this and has ended up pregnant? I keep 'thinking' I am but don't wanna get my hopes up as I did before (but signs were COMPLETELY different to this).
Can I just say that the light bleeding I had was not enough for a pad or anything it just seemed to come when I went to the toilet.
I've had no other obvious symptoms. My breast aren't tender or sore. I've been moody on days and then really happy on others. I've noticed little white bumps around the outline of my areole (but can't be 100% sure if they were there before). But I have noticed the last month that my boobs seem heavier, but once again dunno if it's nothing! Every now and then I get this strange feeling back in my tummy.
Am I just hoping too much, which is why I think I may be pregnant or has anyone actually had this before and has been pregnant?
Haven't taken a test yet as I'm worried for the negative result.

i am 37 yrs old for at least two weeks now i have been spotting but not enough to fill a pad or anything like that. well my period comes around the 28th and ends around the first or the 10th of the month. well i am spotting right now still and i had a tub ligation when i was 25 yrs old. so i know i am not going to have a baby and me and my future hubby don't have sex if we do we use condoms. so i was wondering what is going on and should i be conserned about it?
i am having problems to. i have had a touble ligation and my peroid has been off a lot but not to much. but here lately i have been spoting and having brownish kinda stuff in it. so i know i am not having a baby. idk whats going on i am 37 yrs old
I am having the same issue-- my period is ALWAYS normal and comes on day 28 of my cycle. This month i was suppose to get my period on tuesday.. but got nothing. Wednesday came and I started seeing brown discharge when i wipe.. then Thursday had the same thing but also saw a bit of red when i wiped. now it is friday and i have a light blood flow.. i am wearing a tampon but could go with 1 in all day and it still wouldn't be full.. anyone think i could be pregnant? took a test wednesday and it was negative.. but that was only 1 day after my "missed"period... thanks!
I been having a "light period" for about 10 days now. Its browish/reddish but light and I been having headaches and I been feeling nauseous and feel like ik about to vomit. At times mty stomach hurts but that's sometimes. I called the doctor and they said take a home pregnancy test but I don't want to take it just in case the results different with having the light period and taking the test. I don't know what this is and I don't know what to do. Help?
Im 25 and a mother of 2 kids and since lastyear on the 28th of december I've experience the exact same thing you went through with spotting brown nt really need pad and etc, my light period started from that date and lasted for 6 days which is today the 3rd of Jan 2012, during those days I've had the exact same symptoms u had apart from the white pumps around areole, Ive had feelings that I'm pregnant during my light period and my sister have dreamnt that I was pregs too (in my culture usually when one of a member in the family dreams ur pregs it does comes true, it what happen to me in my previous pregnancy with my 2 kids and also to my niece who was pregs at 19, so i decided to test myself as I couldn't wait any longer to find out, cos me and my husband have been wanting to have a 3rd one, so my husband bought a pregnacy test which was the hCG pregnancy test on the 2nd of jan it came out negatives I still had spotting brownish on tissue when wipe and today i tested again and it came out negative again so both days during it i tested and it came out negative, I think it was too soon for me to take the test but my only option here is to go for blood test and I think you should go too,Ive never had this feeling and symptoms you and i are going through with my previous pregnancy this is the first time i had this light period and having this feeling that i feel im pregnant, I know what u going through emotionally cos I am too, we wanting a baby girl, my husband always saying he's 100% sure I'm pregnant and even my family is saying that too, God bless you

i have sore nipples an low back pain an fevers off an on about week an now they stop an im haveing slight brown bleed an im not due to have my period untill two weeks from now so i dont get it at all am i pregnant or not
Okay so took another test yesterday (6th November) and still NEGATIVE :(
I don't understand. Like its really wired I keep thinking that I am pregnant but the 2 tests have come back that I'm not!
I'm still getting symptoms!
**Ever since I finished 'spotting' or the light period, I've have 'period' pains and I didn't even get them before this happened!
**Ive had constant back pain and a few times it's been so painful it's even hurt to stand up. The pains right in the middle of my lower back!
**Noticed blue veins on my breasts and I swear there are
More of them white bumps around the areola!
**Woke up the other day with 2 mouth ulcers at the top of my mouth (never get them)
**Sorry for this one, but was constipated for 3.5 days last week and I never have trouble with going its normally once a day but even since last week it seem to be every other day!
**Shooting pain in my breasts that didn't last long but enough for me to notice!
**Got a basal thermometer today and took my temp and that was 37C/98.6F
How can I possibly have all these signs and still not be pregnant? What else could it be?

Okay I'll get a test ready for next week. Thanks for your advise :) my doctors are crap! I spoke to a nurse by telephone call and she just told me if the test was negative then I wouldn't be pregnant. Back in April I got some tablets to help with period pains and she just told me to take them! I haven't though cause I don't wanna take them if there is a chance I could be Pregnant! They really don't care!
Hi Shannon thank you for your reply.. So I stopped bleeding on Friday evening and decided to take a test Monday morning (28/11/11) and the test was negative :( do you think I tested too soon after the light bleeding and should wait to test again next week or is it just not my luck this time round?
Since i stopped light bleeding (18/11/11) I have had twitches in left side stomach, really bad taste in mouth every now and then out of nowhere and have noticed slight blue veins on breasts, a couple white bumps around areola and they are the tiniest bit larger and been getting some cramps (like period pains you get BEFORE period).

I would say it's possible that you're pregnant because you stated that you missed your October period.
I would say take an HPT. That's the only way to know for sure if you're pregnant or not.
Women can get some breakthrough bleeding when they're pregnant. And it tends to occur when their period would be starting.
