Is this spotting my period trying to start?

Okay so lately my period been acting funny. Last month i had unprotected  sex with my bf. The day right after i had my period it was a bright red and lasted like 4 days.  After words we had unprotected  sex again (i know dumb) and this was like two weeks ago. And now i am spotting its been 3 days now. I looked up spotting pictures and mine doesn't  look like the light brown or light pink. Its like a dark brown sometimes with little pieces of  darker blood. And my lower backs been in pain. And i had little cramps. I stuck a tampon in and when i pulled it out it was covered in brown blood and looked red in  the back ground  i couldnt tell. Anyways i took a test the other day it said i was negative. So is it okay to say I'm  not pregnant is this my period? I never had this happen be4. Or should i got to the doctor? I dont know what  to do or whats going on

You wouldn't get a positive result until implantation has taken place which would cause spotting I would take another just to rule it out. Is your period late? also speak with your doctor about contraception as it would be safer if your not trying to conceive x
