As far as I know, my Dr. will see me every month - blood work, urine, blood pressure, weight, listening to heartbeat, size of belly etc.. , twice in the 8th month and every week last month. Usually the first u/s is at around 12 weeks, another one between 16 and 20 weeks, and I think further scans may be done at around 32 weeks or later to evaluate fetal size. In my case, the scan that I am having next week will the 4th one due to my history. Of course this is the case when you have health insurance. If I didn't have insurance, I don't know what my options would be or how much it would cost.
My sister in law in Korea (where I am from originally) would go to her doctor without appointments every time she feels weird or have concerns . I can't remember how the health care system worked over there, but it was much easier to see doctors. Here in the US, receptionist seems to decide whether I need to see the Dr. or not. There are so many steps to see the Dr.
I can't wait to see my little bean again next week :) Good luck with you scan!!!
Good luck for your NT scan, fingers crossed that all goes well.
Over here you only get a NT scan (as part of the 12 week scan i believe) if over 35, in this area anyway, some policies change in area to area even though its supposed to be a NATIONAL health service.
Some have an early scan at around 6-7 weeks due to problems with current or previous pregnancies. I had one due to the previous ectopic, although it was at a later stage in this pregnancy than i was rushed into hospital with the ectopic last time which seems daft.
IT should happen that you have a booking in session with the midwife; medical and family history taken, bloods and urine tested and given info before 12 weeks. Then a dating scan at 12 weeks. Then another midwife appointment at 16 weeks to discuss any results, take blood pressure and test urine again. A detailed scan to look for abnormalities at 25 weeks, check size of abdomen, blood pressure and test urine again. Midwife at 31 weeks (if first time pregnancy) to check size of abdomen, blood pressure and urine, and again at 34 weeks and at 36 weeks (where also check for breech position), and 38 weeks and 40. I know this thanks to the info my midwife gave me.
However for how things really seem to work, see my tracker post on 25th September.
How does it work there?
Let us know how you get on with the scan
I can't believe that you have to wait till 15 weeks for your 12 week scan. How does it work there? Good thing that you ordered the doppler so that it could ease your mind off till then.
I am having the nuchal translucency scan next Monday and they call it "First look scan" here. My second miscarriage was due to abnomal chromosoms. I am a bit nerous about that...
