7 months pregnant with 2-3 weeks behind in growth

Hi.

I am 27 weeks pregnant and due April 23, almost 28 and about 3 months ago I found out that my baby girl is abnormally small. They looked for everything they normally do one an ultrasound and couldn't find a problem. Her heart is good, and her blood flow, and the placenta, everything. They couldn't find anything worng, except that she was about two weeks behind in her growth. On Tuesday of last week I had to see the Womens and Fetal Center of Arizona. They've been monitoring her growth since about 5 1/2 months, they told me that shes still behing but putting on weight and that everything is still healthy. Yesterday I had a follow up appointment with my OB/GYN, and he told me that even if I carry her full term, she still might weigh under 5 pounds!

I'm really worried about how everything is going to go when the time finally comes to give birth. They also asked me if I wanted an amniocentesis, but not being one to handle pain very well, I kinda shied away from the needle idea and said that I would have to think about it. What should I do? And how bad is an amio going to hurt??? Anyone else having this problem???

Amnio is just fine.

Litlle cramping for 2 minutes then DONE....then you get to go home and be spoiled for 24 hours :-)

Try not to worry, I have heard this many times and everything turns out fine

Ultrasounds done late in pregnancy can be off as much as two weeks, so I would try not to worry. They told me my first son was going to be six pounds at full term and when he finally came he was 8 pounds! Being off in weight is very normal.

I have never had an amnio, but from what the other women on these forums say, it doesn't hurt. Try not to worry to much, but if you want the amnio for peace of mind, I say go for it.
