Anyone worried about weight gain?

I'm just wondering if anyone else is struggling to "accept" the weight gain aspect of pregnancy. Before getting pregnant, I dropped 20 lbs (thank God!) so was at about 140 (5'5) when I got pregnant. I'm now at 158 (right about where I was before losing weight) and I'm struggling to accept this weight again. Everything in my head is saying "diet!!" but I know better. So I"m eating "somewhat" healthy in terms of getting all the fruits and vegetables I should, drinking plenty of water, and I'm pretty sure I'm eating all the protein I should. I probably eat too many carbs in the form or tortilla's and Mcdonalds hashbrowns (my current obsession) and I have already gained 16 lbs and am 19W2D....

Just wondering how everyone else is doing/feeling. I know sooo many women have only gained 5  to 10 lbs by this pt so i'm worried about being ahead of the game and gaining too much too soon.... I don't want to be a whale by the time i deliver!

thanks for all the support ladies! At 22 weeks I feel fatter than ever and hate the way my thighs and face are ballooning but at the same time, i'm not going to make myself miserable by counting every calorie i consume. for the most part, I'm being healthy and have gotten over my 2 week obsession with hashbrowns. :) I exercise each morning by walking up stairs to work (hehe) and walking our dog in the afternoon. We are moving in January and b/c i'll be jobless and we have to move to an apt, I'll have a free gym  that I can attend daily! (even when i get a job!). We'll also be living on the 2nd floor so that's exercise too! And with being more poor b/c of the move and loss of jobs, I won't be able to afford bad food so... maybe i'll be okay! (most of this is sarcasm!!).

Seriously though....i think women are right and we all gain differently. I have the type of body that struggles to stay at a decent weight and I think my brain just packs on the pounds during pregnancy for some unknown reason but with breastfeeding and healthy eating choices, maybe it will peel off sooner. I think ppl should be less hard on us abt gaining "more weight than we should" b/c unless we're eating a pint of ice cream and mcdonalds everyday...our bodies are doing what they're supposed to right??
See?? My perspective has changed in just 2 weeks! Thanks for the help ladies!!!

I hate the thought of gaining weight. Im normally pretty small & active but I had strange pains for a month so my dr told me no exercising till I they figured them out. I probably have only gained 4-5 lbs thus far but I dont even let the dr tell me my weight at my appointments. Im also worried about it, but I still eat a lot & everything. I have quite the appetite. So I feel where your coming from! I think weight gain is scary to any woman. My bf always tells me its gonna happen so get over it! haha Its hard though!

I wouldn't let the weight gain bother you. With my first son I gained 40 pounds, most of it between 14 and 30 weeks! This time around I have gained only five so far, but the 'norm' according to "What to Expect..." is...

If your pre-pregnancy weight was in the healthy range for your height, you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds, gaining 1 to 5 pounds in the first trimester and about 1 pound per week for the rest of your pregnancy for the optimal growth of your baby.

So, for you, it should be around 5 for week 1-12 and 7 from 13-19 for a total of 12 pounds...you are only six pounds more the the recommended, but as you know, no pregnancy is 'perfect' and weight gain varies from woman to woman. Try not to focus on the scale and focus more on what types of food you are eating. We all gain differently while pregnant, and you may find you slow down later, and I may find I speed up. LOL

actually....in the second trimester you're supposed to be gaining a pound a week...so 14 pounds in the second trimester alone is perfect. i gained around 4 pounds my first trimester and so far i havent gained anything in the second trimester (although i have a baby bump) and a nurse from my OB's actually told me i needed to consume more calories and that she wanted to see a couple more pounds on the scale next time. so i guess im in a different boat but let me tell u its just as frusterating because i honestly just dont feel like eating i have to keep telling myself "there is a baby in there that neeeeds to eat, so feed it!!" lol have you tried some form of gentle exercise like walking, swimming or yoga? you'd be able to still consume the ammount of calories you are right now because exercising would burn the extras that you dont need. i unfortunatly cant exercise yet because im on a nebulizer for my asthma but hopefully soon!!

try not to worry too  much about. i personnally gain  a lot of weight in pregnancy and this one is no exception. when im not pregnant i weigh around 128 and have no problem maintaining this weight but the minute i get pregnant the weight just seems to pile on. already this pregnancy i have gained 18 pounds but i know once i have the baby i will lose it all.

some people gain at different rates, your weight gain may slow down a bit now, either way dont stress about it, it will not do u or the baby any good just make sure your diet is as balanced as possible.

my oh my, i hate to say it but 16 pounds is quite a bit for this far along. i think the "norm" is between 3 and 5 pounds so far.

I too am also worried very much about weight gain, but i wish I only weighed 158 pounds, lol. this is my third pregnancy in 4 years and i am about 50 pounds over what i initially weighed before baby number 1.  luckily i've only gained 4 pounds so far but i'm already significantly overweight. I guess my only advice to you would be to pretend mcdonalds doesn't exist lol no matter how hard that may be ... i bet you'd be surprised how much fat you'd be skipping.

and when you deliver ... BREASTFEED!! lol you'll burn half a pound of fat a day just by producing milk!
