Baby heartbeat not found on 6 and 7 week ultrasound?

My HCG levels started out at 27 then 46 then 268, now at 7 weeks I have now had three ultrasounds and we have not fould the heartbeat.  There is a fetal pole and yolk sac and the baby was measuring 6 wks 4 days when I was 7 weeks (we did IVF).  Has anyone else had this problem?  I am not looking forward to 8/17 my next scan.  He says because of my age (38) there could be a congenital abnomally?  Anyone had this problem?

Hey Elena,
Just thought I would drop you a note and let you know that we lost him at the very time we were scheduled for our ultrasound.  Everything happened within minutes of our appointment, so much that the dr was able to do the ultrasound and see that he was already gone and that there was nothing left.  How many women miscarry at the exact time and at the dr office to say the least.  The thing that is funny is that I only had pain for a few hours after I miscarried, still have the bleeding but after about three hours after we left the dr office, I had no more physical pain.  Hard to believe that he has been gone a week today.
Good luck and I wish you the best on your pregnancy, I hope you have a very sucessful pregnancy with a beautiful baby.

Hi there I just found this great site that is very insperational with stories of hope for babies. It's called misdiagnosed miscarrages. It's from women who have gone threw similar events and some of the endings turn out to be mircale babies. Check it out and see. It was of great help to me. I'm 8 weeks qnd3 days and was misdiagnosed 4 a blighted ovum.

No I asked him if we needed to do any more blood tests and he said no.  We did IVF so I know that I will be 8 weeks on the 15th but since "Nathaniel" (I've already names him weeks ago) is a little behind I just have to wait.  Last time I don't remember him mentioning the yolk sac but this time he did.  He said we were not going to do anything at this time, so it's a wait and see.  I am wondering if by weight could have a part on it, but all the scans have been vaginal.  We did the IFV retrieval/fertilization on 8/4, on 8/18 HCG was 26 progesterone was low,  on 8/21 HCG=46, Prog=20 (they put me on suppositories besides the IM injections, on 8/24 HCG=286 did not test for progesterone and that was my last blod test. on 8/2 ultrasound 6wks no heartbeat but fetal pole (did ot mention sac), on 8/8 no heartbeat but mentioned sac and fetal pole. And now we wait.

I was going through the similar problem...  I JUST had another Ultrasound that put me at about 6 weeks 2 days and we JUST now saw the fetal pole and managed to get a heartbeat... We really had to work to get it though.... We could see the heartbeating....
I know it is very hard to wait, but at this stage the baby is so, so tiny... it can just be difficult to catch the heartbeat... It is a good sign to at least SEE the fetal pole!!!  They saw absolutely NOTHING but the gestational and yolk sac through my past 2 ultrasounds... This last one last Thursday was the FIRST time I got to see that my baby was actually even THERE or ALIVE... So, I sympathize with how you feel right now... Just try to be patient (easier said than done, I know)...
My HCG level was about 3059 at about 5 weeks... Have you had recent HCG level tests?
