Excessively tired in 2nd trimester

By "excessively" i mean MORE than in the first trimester when we just HAVE to have a nap! This is like an allll day fatigue that makes me feel that I haven't had ANY sleep in a year. I have had a few nights of insomnia where I wake up at 1 am and can't fall back asleep and have to work at 5;30 am. But nights like last night, I slept a good 9 hours and of depsite waking up a few times, I slept more than usual but i'm still exhausted!
I'm 24 weeks on Thurs and am wondering if anyone else feels this way. Is this just a normal part of pregnancy or maybe an indication that something else is going on? I am hypothyroid and taking medication and have an appt tomorrow with my OB. Just curious if this is something others experience....

i guess my blood count and all else is normal. I'm over the excessive fatigue now...guess it was just one of those pregnancy things! :)

I just read your post and wouldn't be surprised if your blood test shows you are low in iron as this can make you feel extremely tired and short of breath. I am 25 weeks pregnancy and have a condition called a-plastic anaemia, it is a little different to the usual anaemia but has similar symtoms and like you I am excessively exhausted, struggle to stay awake, have no energy, am very lethargic and short of breath.

Being pregnant does put extra strain on the body...and I can remember feeling tired in my previous pregnancies but nothing compared to this time which I know is because of my blood condtion.  Good luck :)

Thanks for the comments girls.
Doc said he thinks its just a normal part of pregnancy b/c our bodies are going through soooo much and some women have tons of energy 2nd tri and some are tired throughout the whole pregnancy. I think its esp hard for us first time moms b/c we have nothing but our non-pregnant bodies to compare all this too so perhaps things seem extreme for that reason. Doc said he'll do testing at 27weeks (jan 8th) for glucose, thyroid and iron but for now, he's not worried. I mentioned being out of breath fairly regularly for no apparent reason and he said this is also normal. He said women naturally hyperventilate b/c the baby is pulling nutrients from the placenta for nourishment. He said that unless it's a 24/7 thing where I can't get a sentence out without taking a breath, than everything is normal.

Hope this helps reassure some of you ladies! I feel better knowing that i"m not the only one suffering from insomnia, restlessness, and total fatigue!

I feel the same way. No matter how much sleep I get or don't get, I am always exhausted.

I definitely feel exhausted 24/7 no matter how much sleep I get! I've noticed recently that I am tossing and turning ALL night...i'm like BradyAm, I wake up every hour like clock work! It is so frustrating and it is really starting to wear me down. I don't think you being tired is too rare but I agree with pregmeg...let us know what the doctor says please!!

Oh geeze I can never get enough sleep. I go to bed early & sleep the very latest I can (I have school/work diff times everyday) and still need to nap whenever I get the chance (bw class & work, or before bed even) and still am always tired enough for bed early again. I feel like I never am not tired. I have a hard time waking up & just randomly some nights Im restless..usually I sleep my life away. Its pretty much outta control. I thought energy was suppose to come back in the 2nd trimester?!! I;ve tried everything..naps, exercise, drinking more water, eating differently..

I definitely have had the same problem these past few weeks.  i'm  21 weeks, and feeling more tired than ever!  i get around 9 hours of sleep, but it's definitely interrupted by aches and pains and bathroom breaks.  let us know how your doc appt. goes. i'm curious if this is normal, too! good luck!
