I just wanted to add a tidbit of information out there that was a little disturbing to me, and still might affect me. Also, I was wondering if anyone else might be affected by this.
We all know what MRSA is, right? Antibiotic resistant Staph. Usually not a big deal if it is localized and treated accordingly ...
Well, about a month before I found out i was pregnant, my 3 year old was diagnosed with Impetigo caused by MRSA. it wasn't scary or anything, I was a little concerned obviously for his health but it didn't look bad at all (i actually thought they were chicken pox) he was on antibiotics for 10 days and it was gone. About a week later, I noticed a bug bite had gotten infected on my wrist. Overnight it seemed, it swelled and red spread up my forearm. I went to the ER and because my son tested positive for MRSA they went ahead and treated me as though that's what was wrong without testing me. I was on Bactrim for 10 days and it went away (it wasn't as bad as it sounds ... maybe the size of a nickel, just all red and swollen) now, at 5 months pregnant, My OB comes into the room and starts the conversation by saying " since you have a history of MRSA we are required to test you by the CDC 3 times before you give birth or you will give birth in a quarantine room with one doctor, one nurse, DRESSED IN FULL PROTECTIVE GEAR, and no visitors. Needless to say, I was shell shocked ... I felt dirty in a weird way. She told me that I have to test negative 3 times in a row, or that's how their gonna do it. I've never heard of anything like that ever and it really sounds like overkill to me. I did however test negative on my first test, but i have 2 more to go in a row.
I don't understand how i can go to a doctors office or anywhere for that matter but yet i have to deliver in a quarantine room ... in a hospital were MRSA originated and half of the staff are probably carriers anyway ... They even black flag your medical chart if youre ever tested positive for it. does anyone have any thoughts on this? or experience? MRSA is actually very common, and I was a little outraged at how their trying to be with me ...
i really wanted to share my ... displeasure. lol
