I only breastfed my daughter for 2 months and my son for about 3, but I had some other complications that were involved.

I'm glad you're going to a new hospital too sounds like the last one wasn't the best fit!

I'm glad you're looking into all your options :-).

You actually can breastfeed while on hydrocodone. I was on percocet after my son was born and morphine after my daughter was born (for different complications) and I was able to breastfeed both of them without any sort of problem. I would wait to take my dose of pain medicine until right after a feeding session, and usually by the time the baby wanted to feed again the medicine had cycled through my system enough that they got a minimal amount.

It's not ideal, but if you do have to take it you'll be on it a very short amount of time and it's vital to breastfeed through that window. plenty of women who have c-sections and are on pain medicine go on to breastfeed...a lactation consultant can advise you on this after delivery as well :-).

Welcome. I am due April 12th 2012. My first birth (March 04) was natural but my last birth (Jan 07) was a c section and my midwife fully supports me trying for a natural vaginal birth with this baby. Of course I intend to deliver in hospital so that in the event of any complications I am in the right place should a c sect prove to be necessary.

You do NOT NEED to have another c-section.  As long as there are no risk factors that would normally lead to a c-section there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why you can not have a Vaginal birth.  I had an emergency c-section with my first and went on to have FIVE very successful vaginal births.  Even after having had THREE Vbacs the docs in the area I moved to were insisting on a c-section and I flat refused.  I got my vaginal births.  Check out the documentary Ashelen suggested.  Google "ICAN online" and "the unnecesarean"  They all have wonderful information for Vaginal Birth After Cesarean.  Any doc that tells you that you HAVE to have a c/s again is full of bologna.  Docs just like to do them for liability purposes and becuase it is easier on them to schedule births.  The fact is that your chance of uterine rupture is extremely small.  A vaginal birth is the best and healthiest way for you AND your baby as long as no other risk factors are present. Good luck!

Hi! I'm not pregnant, but Ashlen requested a success story with a VBAC because you were being told you have to have another c-section. First off, ican! Google it. It tells you about all of your options and that you CAN VBAC. I don't know why you had a c-section, but YOU CAN HAVE A VAGINAL BIRTH! I had a c-section with my son and had a successful VBAC with my daughter, who was 8lbs 7oz at birth. If you'd like to send me a message with any questions, I'd be more than willing to give you some advice and answer anything I can. I was SO afraid of having another c-section because mine was NOT a pleasant experience. I'll tell you first off, MOST drs tell you that you need another c-section to cover their own butts. I completely agree with what Ashelen said. I was up and walking within a two hours after I had my daughter, and it was MUCH better than my c-section. I did tear with her, and it was a little painful at first. But SO much better, I had more energy, I wasn't in as much pain, unless you experience it you won't really know what I mean. How long ago did you have your first baby? And if you don't mind me asking why did you have a c-section? I know a few women who have actually had VBACs and were told by their current dr they could not do it, but in the end they did again. In the end it is your choice, and no one wants to try to tell you what you should do, I just want you to know you DO have options.

Please look into the real facts about VBACs...many doctors don't like to do them because c-sections are MUCH easier from the doctor's point of view. But the reality is that the risks with VBACs are much lower than those with a repeat c-section for many reasons. But don't let me do the talking, look up some statistics with groups like iCan.org and talk to some of the women here who have had VBACs....some doctors just aren't up to date with the idea that a VBAC actually has a very low chance of uterine rupture and is a good plan if you want any future pregnancies.

It is, of course, your choice....but after 2 vaginal deliveries I can tell you that the recovery time and pain of a normal vaginal birth are amazing..I was up and walking around minutes after my son was born and with almost no pain whatsoever...totally worth it.

but all of that aside...boy or girl I don't care which since I already am blessed with one of each! I have a bump (posted a picture) and have felt a little movement...this is when the fun part of pregnancy begins for me!

what about you? hope for a boy or girl?

Hi there Morgan!
Welcome! I'm due right around April 4th/5th, so I'm almost 15 weeks, and this is my third baby. I have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. My name is Ivy and feel free to ask me anything.

I wanted to let you know...just because you had a c-section before does NOT mean you have to again! You have options, and rights, and you do NOT have to be forced to have major abdominal surgery if you choose not to...there are some awesome groups out there and some great support here on the forum from women who have gone on to have VBACs (vaginal births after c-sections) and can give you some awesome info. Look up iCan.org .

But if you end up with another c-section no biggie! at least you know what to expect ;-).
