That is wonderful news- so happy you passed!! Yeah!! :)
YAY!!! I passed ladies...Phew!!!!
Good luck on your test! Hope you pass it with flying colors! I'll keep you in my thoughts tomorrow!
@MrsPincine- glad it went by fast for you! I'm praying that you passed! Worst case, you have to adjust your diet and watch the sugars. Let us know when you hear!
Thank you:) I hear you on hating needles....I am the same way. They make me so anxious. My appt was at 8am and I wasn't mentally ready for that first shot until 8:30am. Then it got easier after each needle. (4 of them...grrrrr) Both my arms were sore to the touch when I left there and continued to be sore til the next day......I didn't get a phone call on Friday. If I don't here from them on Monday then I know I'm in the clear.....There was one lady there and it was her 2nd time doing the 3hr test within 2 weeks. I felt for her. She said if she fails again, they have to put her on a diet...I'll tell you I did stop eating at 8pm the night before. My last meal was chicken breast and white rice. I also ate really light during the day the day before. Hope fully that helped....Well Good luck on Monday. Bring a book or a word search book. It is a long morning....Keep us updated:)
I failed the 1-hr, too, with a 144. Do the 3 hr next Monday, not looking forward to it, but not really worried. Just really really hate needles, LoL.
@Jennifer- glad you passed!
@ MrsPincine-- good luck!
Thanks:) It actually did go by fast. There were 2 other mommies doing the same thing there so we chatted and it made time fly by for all of us...Now I keep my fingers crossed and hope to god I don't have to go back....
I hope it goes by quickly for you and with positive results! Bring a book cuz it gets a little boring in the waiting room.
My 3 hr screening is tomorrow...Wish me luck ladies!!!
That is wonderful news! :)
I did the 3 hour last week, mine was normal too and I was considered high risk for GB after my last pregnancy.
Just got a call from the doctor and my test came back perfectly normal! Yeah- I'm so happy. I have no clue why the first test was elevated.
It seems very commom the more ladies I talk to. Best to you on your test! It wasn't as bad as I thought. Just bring a good book and the time will fly by.
Good luck to you! :)
I went for my glucose yesterday and got the result this morning. I was elevated at 160. Nurse said I should be around 120 so My 3 hr is scheduled for 2weeks from now....Good luck on your results...Hopefully mine will go well too:)
I hope your results turn out okay. Good luck! :)
I had the 3 hour test this morning. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I should have results by the end of this week. Hoping for the best! :)
Try not to feel too bad...diabetes runs in my family so I was tested in the first trimester and will test again in a week or so. When I first got pregnant, I asked my OB/GYN what I could do to prevent getting gestacional diabetes--exercise, diet, I'd do whatever it took and she said there was really nothing I could do that would decrease the chances...that, like mum says, if it happens, it happens and that if it does, more than likely it will go away after birth. But I do understand your frustration...I'm very nervous about my second test.
It really is nothing you have done. The pregnant body just does things sometimes that is out of our control! The pregnant body slows down the production of insulin so for some women it becomes too slow and glucose is not processed in the body quickly enough. Glucose passes through the placenta and makes the baby gain weight quicker. Another effect is the glucose entering the babies blood stream makes the baby produce more insulin and as insulin acts as a growth hormone it also increases the babies size. As the baby produces more insulin in utero when baby is born and the glucose supply is cut off their little bodies continue to produce those high levels of insulin causing their blood sugars to dip meaning they need very frequent feeding and pssibly formula for the first 24 to 48 hours until they stabilise. It can mean a longer stay in hospital and the baby may be in the Nicu for the first day or two until the glucose levels in babies body stabalize.
Although I haven't had my tests yet this time I did have high sugar and a baby who needed a two day stay in the Nicu with my last pregnancy so I was given a glucose meter to monitor my levels this tome and see the diabetic nutritionist once a month. It's not just about eating healthy, it is about combining the right kinds of foods together, avioding some things and the timing of your meals and snacks. For example if I go all night (8 to 10 hours) without anything my glucose levels are elevated in the morning so I now take a small glass of skim milk and about 10 almonds to bed with me. When I wake to go to the bathroom I eat the almonds and drink the milk before I go back to bed, my blood glucose is then fine in the morning. Having that little snack helps me get back to sleep too.
Try not to worry too much, even if you don't pass the second test it is fairly easy to control the glucose level with some diet planning. And you never know, it may be just fine. Make sure your fast is no longer than 8 hours even if it means you have to set an alarm to have a little snack in the middle of the night. My midwife told me that fasting for longer than 8 hours can cause a false positive result on the 3 hour test.
Good luck
