how many ultrasounds do you get?

Hi ladies!! I am new and just signed up!! I am due April 4th!!!

My husband and I just went to our 2nd appointment and were pretty dissapointed when we learned that we were only getting a Doppler. I am 13 weeks and 1 day and I thought that every appointment, you get to see the little one on the radar screen lol!!!!

This is our first little kiwi!

Pretty well you got your answer from everyone else. In my case I got a vaginal us( sees baby better at early pregnancy) and a regular us at 4 1/2 weeks to confirm pregnancy and due date. I received my second at 8 weeks because they couldn't see baby at 4. I will receive a 4d at 18 weeks because I'm high risk due to epilepsy. Then the normal 20 week us to determine sex. And that will be my last unless there are problems found during the 4d or later in pregnancy. However, in most cases depending on insurance, doctor or hospital you will only receive 2. My insurance will only pay for two unless problems are found Which is why they are paying for all mine. We also listen to the heart beat at every appointment.

Good luck and hopefully you will get one soon. It's the most amazing thing I've ever experienced!

And seeing your husband/boyfriend cry at the sound of the heartbeat is beautiful as well! :)

WOW- now there are 4 of us due on the same day! :) It depends on your doctor, most only give two unless you're being monitored for other issues. Since I did IVF I've had 7 so far! I know a little much. haha
In the beginning I had one every two weeks with the RE until being released to my OB last week. They did one at my first OB appt and then I also had one at my First Trimester Screening. Since I'm a little older they recommend an extra screening (First Trimester Screening) to check for chromosomal disorders. All went great and the baby is growing like a weed! Best to you and everyone expecting!

Congrats and welcome! We are due the same day. :)   It depends on many things; with my first (12 yrs ago) we had only ONE, at 20 wks, the anatomy scan.  With subsequent babies, I had 2-3.  This time, I have had one at each appt (3 so far!), but that is because I am considered "high risk" after 3 m/c.  Last time, I only got one b/c they couldn't find the heartbeat on Doppler (scary!), but found it on sono right away.  pshew!   I know how you feel, waiting is soooo hard!  Hang in there! LoL

Thanks everyone for your responses!!! I appreciate them! I guess we will just have to wait until our 20th week. I thought about going to an off-site place but, we will just wait.

I have gotten 2 so far. (I'm almost 14wks) My first was at 7 1/2wks to confirm pregnancy and baby's heartbeat. Then I had another one at 11 1/2 wks only b/c my Dr said it was still kinda too early to hear a heartbeat on the Doppler. My Gender Sonogram and final U/S is scheduled for Oct27th (I'll be 17 wks and 3days) I will do a 3-D ultrasound probably in the beginning of the third tri maybe around 32wks just b/c I think those are AWESOME and I want to see what my baby is going to looks like:)....

Yeah it depends...most women only get one or two.

I get one at every appointment (because my OB has an ultrasound machine in the exam rooms), and several extras (done by a high-risk doctor at special appointments) because I'm high risk due to a heart problem that I have.

But if you want more than one or two, you can always look into paying for a private 3D scan somewhere in your second or early third trimester...you'll have to find a place that does it, though (search online in your area).

congrats and welcome :-). I'm due right around the 4th..I still can't get a solid date, lol. I've been told 1st...4th..5th..and 9th..so..I'm just averaging and saying the 5th for now. I've been right with my last two babies so maybe I'll be right this time ;-).

Depends on many things; where you live ( here you only get one routine one at 18 weeks, doc's can order more if they have reason to believe it necessary or if there are complications) it can also depend on whether your doc has a us machine in his office, how old you are, whether it is a multiples pregnancy. Most places you get two as the other poster stated. Check with your doctor what us you will be offered.

Congrats on your pregnancy

As I understand it, you only get two scans in the entire pregnancy, one is a dating scan which takes place between 10-14 weeks, and the second is to look for any abnormalities and find out the sex which takes place between weeks 20-24. I'm still waiting for my first scan as well, I'm due 22 April 2012. :-)
