pain relief

hi guys big congratulations to the ladies who have had there babies glad to see your all doing well.
was just wondering what type of pain relief everyone uses or plans on using during labour... in the uk the main kind of pain relief we use is gas and air doesnt really relieve pain but i thought it helped loads with breathing through contractions and i prefered that one too because i felt more in controll, dont think id like to have the epidural cant imagine seeing myself trying to push without the urge lol another one used a lot over here is morphine anyone tried this if so what are the effects ...thanks in advance :)

With my first I had pain meds through an Iv and an epidural but my epidural wore off when it came to pushing.  I went from absolutely no pain to holy mother of heavens unbearable pain.  If I knew the epidural would wear off when I started pushing I would of never got it in the first place.  I would rather be use to the pain then go from zero to holy cow in a matter of seconds.  Has anyone else had their epidural wear off before pushing began?

here in the us as fqr as i know they dont use gas... the most common pain relief for labor is the epidural or meds thru the iv. and it also effect each woman different ive known some womes say they love it me included and some say it did nothing for them.... the name epidural is actually not the meds its the spot where they insert the meds usually they some type of med the is or relatated to morphine and some babies cant tolerate it which is why the heart beat slows... but both my babies came out fine and were awake for hours after birth not sleepy.... so i guess it all depends on you your body and how baby will handle it

oh thats ok then if you still felt the urge to push i was waching those birthing programmes and most of the women who were having epidurals was sort of pushing away and nothing seemed to be happening, i thought it was good how my body was doing most of the work lol... was also wondering do they use gas and air where you guys are from doesnt do anything for pain just makes you feel drunk  but it wears off as soon as you stop breathing it... i loved it lol...
i heard that about the morphine a friend of mine used it and she said after she had her baby she felt like she had no controll over her body and it didnt feel good its sposed to make baby feel really sleepy too think thats why theres risks in slowing its heart rate down ...

Breathing thru contractions helped me! & I also found walking worked for me rather then laying in the bed the whole time! I guess I have a high tolerance for pain! I did not have any pain meds when I was in labor. I heard the morphine can slow the baby's heart beat down! But like all other drugs der are always risks!

well here is my story!......i had the epidural with both my births... the first it was instant relief and i lost all feeling of pain from waist below but he wad already so low i still felt pressure down and knew when i had the urge to push the only thing i didnt feel was the pain from the contraction but still knew when i needed to push actually i kept telling the nurses when i was ready and they told me not to push but i did a little anyway i really just had to so by the time the dr arrived his head was crowning and took 3 pushes to get him out....

this second time around i also got epidural but labor was so quick it really didnt have much time to get through my system.... when i first recieved  it i felt a little better contractions werent as strong as the peaked but i still felt them and had to continue with my breathing but within and hour of getting it i was ready to push... as i had to was for midwife to come from office next to hospital i felt all contractions and still had some feeling in my vaginal area some pain but really just extreem pressure. like i said labor went so quick it was like my body didnt have time to adjust. this baby wasnt still sitting kind of high so i had to push him down... took about 5-6 pushes but i felt it all but the epidural did take the edge off the pain....

basically i wouldnt havit it any other way but thats  because i dont have a high tolerance for pain  but im the person who befor i had my kids would go to the hospital every month because menstral cramps were so bad.... i just cant take pain very well
