Dr's usually don't do the sweep until you're at least 39 weeks and your cervix needs to be at least 1cm dilated in order for the dr to get their fingers into to sweep the sac away from the uterus/cervix. Sweeping releases a hormone called prostaglandin which may Kickstart labor.  I had mine done at 39 and he said if it was going to work it would put me into labor within 48 hours. It's been 32 hours and nothing has happened. I'm still a week away from my due date so I'm not upset that it didn't work. Dr estimates baby is more than 8lbs and trust me I'm in pain, she's fully engaged and puts tons of pressure on my cervix and tailbone, but if she's not ready and my body is not ready then that's okay with me. I care more about her health and well being than my own, I guess that's part of motherhood. Good luck ladies!!

When they strip your membrane it's not being induced at all. There is a thin membrane between the placenta and your cerix this is what they are stripping.  Some women feel a little pain while it is being done while others it doesn't hurt at all or just slight discomfort. It can cause labor but it's not a garuntte that labor will start. Some woman will experence cramping after for a few days if it doesnt start labor. When you are induced there is a pill that is inserted into the cervix that can start to cause your cervix to dilate, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes they have to insert that pill again because of no progress. Then potocin is started and that's usually when contraction really start to get stronger and come faster. Sometimes it's a quick process and sometimes being induces can take a while. It really just depends on how ready your body is. I hope this helps!

Me too. My due date isn't until the 22nd but I am 1 centameter dilated as of yesterday. But that doesn't really mean much since I could stay this way for a couple weeks.

And do you dilate on your own or do you still need pitoci to get things going? Sorry to ask so many questions I am just curious how things go or work.

When they induce you they put something in side of you and it desolves your plug right? Then do pitocin To get you dilated? I wonder how painful it is to have thr membrane striped or scrapped or what ever they do.
