Leaving the hospital

When your leaving the hospital is it absolutely necessary to have the baby car seat base? My cousin recently had her baby shower and got 2 car seats and is giving us one but took the base to use for her husband's car. Will the hospital not let me take my baby home if I don't have the base? I'm due the 19th and want to be ready just in case he decides to come early

I'd probably just end up calling the maker of the seat to find out if it is still considered "whole/safe" without the base and go from there. Also i agree with one of the above I'm almost positive tbat the base is so you dont havr to fool with the CARS belt every tjme you get in and out not necessarily making it any less safe but more a pain in the butt. Afterall they didn't used to have bases a few years back. My little brothers seat never had a base. Don't think its mandatory but id call the manufacturer to ease your mind mama

Without the base your car seat may be unsafe and you may be putting your babys life in danger. Please contact your local car seat installer, the car seat manafacturer or fire department ( depends witch country you'r in. ) and ask a profeshinal. You'r babys life is not worth the risk. Also if you can't find out please walk home if possible Nd dint use the car unless absolutly nessasary

It depends on the actual carseat. Make sure yours can be used without the base. If so, go ahead.

The base is just an accessory. You do not need it to function the seat properly. They tend to make sure baby is in the seat properly as well as the seat in the car.

I would check with the hospital for sure but I believe the base is ultimately just for convenience. Making it easier to get it in and out without having to mess with the seat belt. I'm not 100% but that's what I always thought.

Go to a fire station. Have them put it in without the base. If they do it. You are okay!!! :) they put them in for free. Heard police stations will also help with that

Call the hospital to check. I know there is a way to secure just the carseat but there might be rules and regulations I dont know about.

I don't think its necessary.  My friends had never had the base for their newborn car seat.  Hospital just let them go without it. But I cannot be sure about rules in your hospital.  I think you should ask your doctor about it on your next appointment

The manual to my car seat shows Setup without the base so I assume it wouldn't if that wasn't an option. I'd maybe call your local firehouse or Google. That's a good one. Good luck!

We have the actual car seat , just not the bottom piece which is the base.
