Not happy. . Don't want to be induced

I'm 39 weeks exactly.  My Dr wants me to have my son on the due date which is the 13th. I am high risk but only because of some medication I'm on.  Why do Dr's feel the need to induce as soon as you are at 40 weeks? The placenta is ok until at least 41. I don't want to rush him out if it's not necessary.  Especially when I know when he was concieved and that was almost two weeks after my lmp . I don't mind inducing by stripping the membranes but I DO NOT want to induce by potocin. I heard it makes labor so much worse.  Thursday when I see her next she said we can strip the membranes but if that doesn't work and he doesn't come on his own by the 13th then she is going to induce with potocin.  What do you all think?  Please any advice would help.  This is my first and it's a huge deal for me. . I do not want this to be a horrible experience.

In my research I've learned that pitocin really isn't good for you or the baby, it should only be used if absolutely necessary but I don't know your situation. Doctors often push for induction but there are no rules, the baby will come when he's ready. Many people go past 41 or 42 even 43 weeks with normal healthy births. You should check with a midwife. Don't be afraid to say no if you want to wait but you also have to consider why you are high risk, maybe it's necessary.

I was given pitocin with my daughter because I wasnt progressing fast enough... They broke my water, pushed pitocin and I had the epidural... my labor was entirely painless! They had to wake me up to tell me it was time to push.

You have the right to refuse an induction. They can't let you go past 42 weeks though. Maybe have him explain exactly why he feels so,strongly about inducing right at 40 and explain you'd be more comfortable waiting til at least 41 weeks.

You have every right to refuse. I'm going to just over 40 weeks and if she doesn't come on her own, I've opted for another csection instead. I would let myself go to 42 weeks but we're moving cross country a couple weeks later and I have to drive so I need as much healing time as possible

I was induced with my first and everything went smooth for me. Start to finish was 12 hours. But I was progressing slowly anyway.

Was induced with my 1st but I had epidural immediately so I wouldn't have to feel contractions. Everything went fine without any problems. They can induce with things other than pit., like a follie bulb (more natural) & cervidil (pill inserted into vagina). But honestly it's your choice. This is my 3rd pregnancy  (2nd baby) & I'm high risk due to miscarriage. They kept telling me the same they want to induce ON DD like with my daughter but I just told them no I want to go into labor on my own if at all possible. The dr checked out my charts & everything has been absolutely fine with this pregnancy so he told the midwife to scheduled my induction for 41 weeks like they do with non high risk. Mention it to them because its your choice you can always refuse, my dr even told me I could schedule to be induced on DD & when the day got here I could say "no I changed my mind don't want to be induced today"

I was induced and it wasn't bad at all. I watched an interview with a doctor talking about it and all they do is give you a synthetic version of the hormone that causes labour to start. So all it does is start labour, and your body does the rest.
