To be honest I took the class with DH and I was pretty disappointed. I think it may have been more informative to my DH whose never held a newborn and maybe one baby in his life, but not much new stuff to caring stuff .
They went over the the newborn reflexes, newborn appearance and newborn conditions that go away, how to sponge bathe the baby, and how to swaddle the baby. They didn't really cover respondig to babies cries, SIDS safety, and what to expect when you bring the baby home....oh well.
my hospital offered it for free while we were still there. They had a class every morning, so if we weren't up for it one day, the next was an option. It covered all of the important basics. Contact your hospital and see if they offer one to new parents while you're there.
Yeah, DH is worried about handling the baby until they can hold their heads up. I'm sure that will change and his "Papa Bear" mentality will set in, but we'll see!
Oh thats good to know...I'm primarily interested in it for my husband. My youngest is 14 years old and I think it might be a good to get a refreshers class for myself --things and philosophies change...I'm interested in getting up to date SIDS info.
DH has never held a newborn so good idea for him. I think this one will be a preemie and I'm a wee bit nervous about handling a small baby.
We took both a childbirth class, and an infant care class. I'm a nurse, and have been around children all my life, but my DH had not. I think it was definitely worth it because they had a pediatrician come and talk and answer questions, and you got to play with the baby dolls and learn to swaddle and diaper. I also got a really good booklet with the class, that had all kinds of information in it.
