Im 6 mos and just had it done for the first time a couple weeks ago. My hairdresser wont do it til the 2nd trimester. I wont have it done again for another 8 weeks or so... i like low maintenance Jen Aniston style hair... if you're concerned about which products to use, look into salons that use ammonia free products (think they're called Aveda)... good luck!

You know back in 1990 when I had my first baby I never even heard that coloring your hair was an issue....now in the past 10 years I've heard about women worrying about coloring their hair!!    What I am interested in is why they decided hair coloring could be unsafe.....what supporting evidence is there?    Was a baby born with a deformity because a mom decided to cover up her gray!!      I doubt there is a case on file!!  I think it's an urban legend gone bad or something.....just a bunch of nonsense!

I do know however that perms may not work in first trimester due to crazy hormone levels!!  LOL!   Does anyone perm their hair anymore??

I do it! And haven't had any problems, if you're worried you can always try to find an Aveda salon, their products are all natural.

Wow, I think the last time I did my hair in this pregnancy was in the 1st trimester, I guess that is why everybody especially dh was upset about it. That is why I wasn't sure about doing it again. But I guess now it is safer even my dr gave me the go ahead already.

i would do it in the 3rd trimester.... but my husband wont go for it.  He was very against me doing it last time too, so I am sure he wouldnt go for it this time either.  Most of my friends still colored their hair during pregnancy too, just avoided doing so in 1st trimester.

I haven't completely dyed my hair in a long time, but I do get highlights....Nicmom is right, it used to be unsafe due to ammonia, but I don't know of any hair colorings that use it anymore!?!  I would say do it!!  :)

I got the official blessing from my OBs office that it is safe to color your hair.  I'd do it without hesitation, unless of course I was getting blond highlights or going blonde.  I am putting this disclaimer on here because your hair grows so fast during pregnancy that much of the time between touch ups you will look like a skunk (dark roots).   Otherwise it is safe.

Like the others, I've read that coloring is different now, so the old rules don't apply. I've had my hair colored twice since I've been pregnant, and I'm getting ready to do it again. My OB didn't have a problem with it. I say, wash that gray right outta your hair, girl!

They do say that now the coloring is made differently then it was in the past and it should be safe.  As blueeyed said, some may not like to do it since the hormones can effect the color.  I decided to let mine grow out since it seemed like a good time to do it.  I was trying to look through my high school yearbook to see what my original color even is LOL!  I was also scared it would come out grey, but so far, so good!

I've done it twice. The whole reason it wasn't good for you before was because it had ammonia in it. They don't use that type of dye anymore so you should be fine.

I think alot of stylist dont do it in the first trimester. Some wont do it at all because of hormones. Your hair may not take the color you try to color it. I have always gotten mine done while pregnant. So far this pregnancy I have been all natraul, but I might want to color soon, im noticing gray too, UGH:(
