Matthew John is here!

Just a quick update.  Matthew John was born 10:53 pm 8/27 via c-section due to pre-eclamsia.  7 lbs 11 oz 20 inches.  It's been a long and bumpy ride for me since my appt on the 27th.  I'm still in the hospital, but I will update with pics and the entire story when I get a chance.  Just wanted to give my Medhelp friends a heads up.  Missing you all.

i'm so sorry you went through this. sounds a lot like my first pregnancy, although i was fortunate to only have to spend 24 hrs in L&D after having the baby because my bp dropped nicely. as silly as it sounds, i remember very clearly how awful it was to not be allowed to eat or drink- i was miserable. my mouth was so dry and my gums bleeding. i used to try to melt the ice chips in the cup just to get a sip of water.

anyways, glad to hear you're home and feeling better. enjoy your baby boy :)

Alright, since the little one is kinda quiet in his bassinet, I have a few minutes to let you guys know what happened.  I hadn’t been feeling well all last week, nauseated, dry heaving/vomiting, and a headache.  I also had two episodes of seeing blue spots, like someone had taken my picture.  I went for my appt at 1:30 with an ultrasound.  They did the ultrasound first and he was head down, and measuring about 7 lbs 11 oz.  Then they weighed me, and I had gained another few lbs and my blood pressure was 160/100, when it was usually 120/60-80.  I still was not dilated anything much, and he was really high.  My feet were huge and my toes hurt to move them.  My doc then decided that he was sending me over to the hospital and they were gonna work me up for Pregnancy induced hypertension or Preeclamsia.  The doc came over and said the plan was going to be for a c-section either that night or Friday.  Well, my labs came back elevated, so they planned the section for 10:30 pm.  That’s when the fun started.  I have horrible veins to start, and then add 35 lbs of baby weight, and they become nonexistent.  Plus I hadn’t drank anything much because of not feeling well.  So I probably was dehydrated.  It took the anesthesiologist 3 tries to get an IV on me, and it wasn’t in a great spot.  They started me on IV fluids as well as Magnesium for the blood pressure.  Every few hours, they had to draw more blood on me, and they couldn’t use the one arm because of the medication.  They figured that after delivery, my blood pressure would resolve itself.  No such luck.  I was still having blood pressures of 160-180/90-100.  I wasn’t able to eat from Thursday’s admission until Saturday morning.  I was only allowed ice chips.  My labs kept dropping, but it also causes your platelets to drop and they weren’t stopping.  They kept having to stick me, and I had no spots left on my arm.  Saturday morning, my OB decided to try me off of the medication, and let me get out of bed and give me food.  I spent all of this time in Labor and Delivery because of the frequent monitoring.  I didn’t make it to postpartum until Saturday night.   They started me on medication for my blood pressure, and I have to have it checked regularly.  The one nice perk about this situation is that I have lost 30 lbs already between not eating for 48 hours, birth, breast feeding and pumping.  They kept me another day because of my blood pressure, and we finally came home yesterday.  First night home wasn’t terrible, but we are all a little sleepy today!
